    Had a Remington 700 in Alabama being threaded and also had the AWC Thundertrap with it for ensuring a correct fit....rifle and suppressor were dropped at the Post Office on August 6th and have not been seen since. Shipper did go to postmaster and log this package as missing....
    Not exactly having that warm and fuzzy feeling

    Hope it turns up soon for you. That's the pits. You could call it a warm & fuzzy feeling in one sense. Your getting warm & fuzzy headed & feel like your about to pass out worrying. I klnow that's the way I would feel.

    i don't use the usps after a couple of deals like that.. The fortunate thing is that both times that i had issue they turned up about 2 months later. Always over insure or insure for retail or full replacement value, and and use a faster than normal shipping method. I feel your pain, and i hope it all works out.

    I send Long Guns USPS usually Second Day,the local Postmaster said the USPS strongly suggests using registered mail for firearms,but they can not force you to.I still sweat bullets every time I ship one,no matter who it is with.

    I can't either.
    If there's no tracking, then there's no insurance.

    That's moronic on a shipment of such value, not to mention the sensitive nature of the contents.

    I assume this is a smith?

    Get the ATF and police involved light a fire under the the guy that shipped it. If there was no tracking then there is no proof that it was even shipped so all arrows point to him. Give your tracking info as proof you sent it to him for work. With the police and ATF investigating him it would serve him well to do his damn best to get you your gear back.

    The government chasing the government!! Now that is hilarious. When you mention the ATF and USPS "speed things up" doesn't fit in that equation. You are talking about the same two entities that work together on NFA paperwork and take 2-20 days to return your paperwork.

    Sounds like the OP shipped it himself. Don't think he should call the law on himself.

    no...the smith shipped back to me after cutting the Remmington to 18" and threading for the Thundertrap. He also did a bolt job and had the package since late May....had a message yesterday from the Special Agent at the Postal Service , Felix Montelera advising that the investigation was ongoing and that was pretty much all he could tell me.
    It is believed to be a postal employee at Shorter Al that stole the package. <span style="font-weight: bold">ATF will not investigate but have taken the Serial numbers and have them listed as stolen in the event that someone is dumb enough to take to a dealer or transfer through one.</span>Shipper has accepted responsibility for the missing package but I will have to wait for the Postal service to complete their investigation before anything will be done....

    spoke again today with the OIG, Special Agent...he has spoken to one agent at ATF who advised that the rifle and suppressor should not have been sent through the postal service and that that was against the law...WTF....spent 20 minutes trying to get him to understand that this was not factual...this really is becomming a comedy of errors ....

    Smith is an FFL/SOT...known on these boards....I included a copy of my form 4 with the can. Perfectly legitimate transaction from that point of view....guy suposedly went through an ATF inspection in the 2+ months he had the rifle/can and no issues with that.
    I cant understand why a guy in the business wouldnt use Fedex/Ups for better tracking.

    it takes 90 days in some instances to get a can, but theres no hurry on the atf's part to find out where it is at now, hmmmmmm, one would think they would be tearing up every lead to find this thing as pissy as they are about who has them

    I have shipped with all three (usps, ups & fedex) they have all opened packages of mine. I do not really trust any of them, but what are you going to do? I have also had packages lost by them and turn up weeks later.

    going on 46 days...safe to say that this one is stolen! The smith offered to replace the lost items although Im still out the tax stamps....could be a lot worse.
    I have zero confidence in the OIG/Postal Inspectors and any "investigation" that they are conducting. They have three postal employees and a contractor that had access to the package...at some point you would expect ATF to step in and take over...not holding my breath on that either....

    That's a bit bogus... I commend the replacing of the parts, that show's he wants to do the right thing, but after all the headache and strive (not to mention umpteen months loss of gear), I'd be expecting the stamp fee to be covered as well... In the end, his boo boo by not insuring it, not yours.

    The smith is sending along a new trigger....the Postal Inspectors dont give a crap if your gear goes missing. The only response I have had on this has been from the smith (took ownership of the issue) and from the NFA Branch in WV. I sent a certified letter advising of the theft last week and all of a sudden this package arrives in the mail today...can only expect that ATF spoke to someone and scared the right person...pissed that they broke the trigger....

    Glad you got it back could have just as easy gone the other way.

    USPS broke a trigger on an action of mine just the way yours is broken. I replaced it with a whole different assembly but wish I knew where to find just that part of the trigger so I could salvage what I have.

    A competent gunsmith could replace the shoe for you and you get to keep your trigger housing and its guts.


    Glad you got it back. I would have been sick over that. And would have been raising hell.

    i mailed my complete upper usps twice now. slowest cheapest rate available. insured for way over the price of replacement. never had an issue. but i always insure if i cant afford to replace.
