I have a R700 .338 lapua that I received as a gift with a Leopuld mark IV. The rifle is glass bedded and the bore has been lapped. Are there any other major improvements I could make to the rifle to further accurize it and make it a better weapon overall ? A Jewell trigger is on the way too.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Don't spend any more money until you shoot it. From shooting you will see what can be improved upon to make it more accurate.

Sounds like you have a pretty good setup already. Not much you can do to make it better, just a few things to customize or personalize it for your tastes like a different stock, cerakote, etc. But again, these would be lateral changes and won't necessarily make it more accurate.

Reloading seems like the logical next step.

As for how it shoots:

Me, my uncle, and my granddad had never worked with mil dot scopes before, or at least very little. Once we got it down, it was dead on at 500 yards with 25 MPH wind. I will do more shooting though to get to know the rifle better.

Ammo I'm using is Hornady 285 grain BTHP

Expectations, hard to say since I'm not experienced with this rifle, given that I just started shooting it. I'd like to be able to reach out well over 1000 yards (and yes I know shooting beyond that distance requires a substantial amount of skill)

I started out with that rifle , I'd just shoot it and also I believe that would be aluminum bedded from the factory.the brake is decent.if you keep shooting those 300s thru it soon enough you will need a barrel , I'd wait until then to make any improvements...like truing the action.by the way I did make some improvements, I got rid of everything but the stock altho I would of kept the action the post office lost it so now it sports a Stiller Tac 338, Krieger #10 heavy target barrel and a pain killer brake.BTW I only replaced those parts because Iam a nut about I mprovements not because it shot bad..was it a waste hell yea I should of shot the barrel out, it only had 40 rounds down the tube. So instead of a 600.oo revamp plus barrel it cost me 2000.00 plus the barrel.am I happy hell yea I love this rifle ...but I loved it at first, bottom line slow down an shoot your rifle it sounds like it might be a shooter. BTW locktite scope rings an base it should be fine.
