I'm turning my daughter's .243 into a .7mm-08. Here is my shopping list:
Match grade barrel, fluted, chamber cut. New recoil lug
Trued, blueprinted or whatever 700 action
Ceracoat action and barrel.

I'm thinking $400.00 Barrel, $150.00 action work, $100.00 ceracoat? What do ya'll think? The rifle shoots 1.5+ MOA, I want .5-.7.

Here is the rifle

Re: Rifle Makeover, what should it cost?

Cost differ depending on who you get to do the work, but over all your a little lite.

Barrel Blank: $300.
Fluting: $125.
Install, chamber and thread barrel: $250.
Truing action: $175.
Cerakoting complete barreled action: $160.
Recoil Lug: $25.

Total: $1035.

Vs the $650. you are figuring on. I think the part you mostly missed is the thread, chamber, and install of your barrel.

Keep in mind, if you get a barrel that is large enough to be fluted then you're probably either going to need a new stock or modify the sporter barrel channel in your existing.

You can probably find a smith who could save you a little on labor from what Bob listed, but I doubt more than a hundred or so.

Me, personally, unless she's planning on shooting F-class with it, I'd go with a #3 profile Montana blank from gun broker for ~$200, skip the fluting, and save yourself about $225 over the fluted Rock barrel Bob priced out. I built a friend of mine a budget 308 off of one of their blanks and was shocked at the accuracy that came out of it (much closer to .25 MOA than .50MOA.) The #3 profile is heavy enough for shooting groups and tactical matches but considerably lighter than even a varmit profile (so you don't need to flute it) and might even fit into your existing stock without modification.

Have you thought about .308? If you hand load you can use a light bullet to keep recoil down and probably be more accurate than the 7mm. If you dont yet, try it you might get that .243 down to .5 MOA as it sits! (You did break it in properly didn't you?)

ER Shaw has a closeout on #2 contour barrels for $65.00

Shaw posted pricing:

Barrel Fitting - Includes: truing face of reciever, headspacing and test firing. $110

Lap Locking Lugs $55

True Bolt Face $40

Kreiger Precision

Barrel $285-295

Install barrel with action blueprint $270

People seem to be in love with Duracoat and Ceracoat, but I have found that Brownell's Durahyde II works very well and only costs $15.00 per spray can (good for 2 rifles) I can put it on myself in my driveway and use my heat gun to cure it in 15 minutes if I ever scratch or gouge it, I still have the can and can redo spots at need without having to pay or wait for someone else.

My bet would be to ask around, find out who does the match winning gun smithing in your area and talk to them.

If you lived a bit closer to Galveston, I would turn you on to my guy, his bench rifles get .1s and .2s
