Re: Rimfire sniper matches (TPRC)
We do.
Here is what we learned.
Steel targets make for a faster match. Paper = slow.
Steel target have to be 1/4 inch thick out to 200 yards. Otherwise they bend. 1/2 inch is way to thick for anything.
From 220 yards to 250 yards we use 3/16 inch steel.
We had a target at 330 yards that was 1/8 thick and the .22 rimfire rounds taco'd that target.(alot of folks hit this suprisingly, it was an optional stage)
For target sizes we use the following accuracy to determine hit probability
1 inch at 100 yards
4 inches at 200 yards
a 3.5 inch round gong is reasonable, prone supported, out to 100 yards
for 200 we don't usually have anything smaller that 6x10 inches.(we tried a 4x6 at 200 yards and it was too small, and the competitors got a tad frustrated.)
at 250, the target is 9x15 inches.
for the 330 yard shot the target was 14x21 inches.
We also don't have anyone have to determine the distance to target(mil targets). In order to see the dirt splash we have berms from 25 out to 330 yards at 25 yard intervals.
