I need some opinions and tips re correct ring height for my newly-acquired Vortex Viper 6.5-20X44. It will ultimately end up on a Savage 12 LRP IN 6.5 Creed. next month.
For now, I will use it on a Savage .308 Axis that is idle.
I have Warne bases on it for rotating a Nikon 4-12X40 w/Warne tall QDs.
Any advantage to keeping scope as low to barrel as possible?
Thx as always!

Re: Ring Height-Vortex Viper 44

Keeping it low will give you a better and more consistent cheek weld. I always go as low as I can without touching and still making sure the bolt cycles cleanly.

Re: Ring Height-Vortex Viper 44

I'm running low Burris xtr rings on mine with an egw 20moa base

Re: Ring Height-Vortex Viper 44

Currently running a Vortex 5-15x44mm with Seekins low (0.82") rings on a Savage MkII with EGW 20MOA base. I generally like running as low as possible on stocks without an adjustable cheek riser.

Vortex Viper HS 5-15x44, EGW 25MOA base with Burris 30mm XTR low rings...about 1/4" clearance between a varmint contour barrel and the objective.
