Rifle Scopes Ring Lapping Q

When you guys lap your rings do you do until the alignment points are exactly lined up or very very close? Mine are within a millimeter of each other vertically and lined up horizontally. I don't want to take off excess material if I don't have to. Thanks.

I have given up lapping. I usually just got them very close. I use BO and Seekins on well built rifles. I am just going to trust the gear.

I'm using Seekins too. They were very close to start. I was curious what others do.
