I don’t mean for this to sound like a dumb question but what is the difference between the various ring and base options? I know the "good" ones cost more. Some are 1 piece systems and others are 1 piece base or 2 piece base with a whole assortment of ring options. Some cost less than $50 and some cost as much as $250 for the base and ring setup. Is there really that much difference between a $50-$60 setup and a $250 setup?
I have a Remington 700 308, so short action, and I am getting a new 6 x 24 x 50 30mm tube scope. I plan to eventually shoot out to 1000 yards. The scope has 50moa up and 50moa down internal adjustment (so the scope maker says). Would I still need a 20moa base?
My current rifle has (the old scope) 6.5 x 20 x 50 VXIII LRT Leupold Scope with $30 Leupold base and $30 Leupold rings. I just want to see if there is a real need to go to something better for the new scope.
