I am mounting up a Nightforce 5.5-22 x56 onto a 338 Lapua. Are regular 4-screw Badger or Seekins rings plenty, or do I need Max or a set of 6/4 screw rings? Even if not an absolute requirement, and appreciable benefit?

Not worried about weight -- rifles already a toad.

Thanks guys.

4 / 4 Will hold fine if installed and torques properly. A trick I learned here is to skin the rings with very thin layer if black automotive silicone (rtv gasket ). The scope will not shoot loose. Your scope can still be removed easily and the silicone rubs right off and cleans up easily.

A 338 even without a brake doesn't recoil terribly bad. You will be good to go with the 4 screw rings. They are .8" wide where everyone else's are .625 or less.

The 6 screw rings are more for looks than anything

Also, we do NOT recommend putting anything between your rings and scope. Our rings fit the tube with the correct tolerance and you dont have room for anything between. It would be a very good way to crush your scope tube..
