Re: rings for AR platform SS10x42
The PEPR mount is pretty versatile...
It has a fairly high centerline and is positioned 2" forward but takes up very little rail.
I slapped this on here real quick to give you a quick idea.
This is 56mm cleared on flat top with a folding gas block front sight slightly higher. Pics with sunshade and with lens cap directly above post- plenty of room. There's as you can see also plenty of left over room to clear any BUIS by the ocular. It is a nice construction for the price, comprised of 7075 aluminum and steel mounting interface.
I know some people find this mount a little high (even though its more traditional centerline for AR), there are times I prefer having a lower mount as well. Sometimes it's nice to have the 1-x or 1.x type a bit higher for different shooting. I think when going target/Varmint with larger scopes it can work out to ones advantage to get the scope a bit closer to bore. I guess part of it is preference, but if shooting longer distances you will lose less elevation travel from mounting so high.
I prefer the smooth caps that they ship with them now that are interchangeable; mounting on the top rail is very high. When using target turrets it's not well suited for top mounting anyway.
This obviously doesn't go here but it shows what it capable of (and how high it really is). If you're using a varmint AR or something with low profile hand guards, this mount will not get your objective lower than or flush with the receiver.
Since your objective is only 42mm, you could consider getting a cantilever riser/pic base and get a set of rings that will just allow you to clear the profile of whichever platform AR you have. There are lower one piece mounts by ADM that will bring you much lower as well. Going with rings will allow you to get exactly the height you want and you can account for whatever height and forward position is best suited for your cheek weld.
Here some specs and info on it if your interested...
Its a quick comparison next to Warne's RAMP mount which is very nice for the price
