I've got a Vudu 5-25 in route and it will be going on my 18" .308 M5. Should I mount or ring this bad boy? Figured I'd run a mount but a lot of pics I see people are running rings... any advantage in doing so? Thanks!

It depends on rail space. Most AR platforms use 1pc mounts so they can put the scope further forward on the receiver without having to mount one ring on a rail and the other on the receiver.

Rings in most cases are lighter than 1pc mounts. Just depends on your scope and how much rail space you have to use.

rings work fine. only time a mount is necessary is AR15 where the handguard rail is not monolithic with the receiver which requires a mount that allows the glass to be over the front while still attached only to the receiver

I like one piece mounts because they move from one gun to another easier, and my RTZ has been great doing so (Vortex infinite adjustment helps- just keep records)

Quality rings and quality mounts will give you the exact same performance. If you plan on using the optic on multiple rifles, the mounts seem to be a little easier to remove and place on another rifle.

That being said, choose whichever one you think looks better. The results will be the same.

Thanks guys. I think I could get away with rings due to the longer upper on the M5 but a mount seems like it'll make more sense because I'd like to swap it to multiple rifles with ease. Thanks for the input!

I use a variety of rings or one-piece mounts, on multiple rifles ranging from .223 to .308. I think either would be fine as long as they have good mechanisms to secure the scope, particularly on something with as much recoil as a .308. Another factor would be whether you need to add another 20 MOA to the equation. We just had to remove a one-piece from my son's .308 AR10. The scope was moving all over the place. We finally swapped him out to weaver tactical rings - problem solved.
