Rifle Scopes Rings question

I am sure this has been covered but can't seem to find it using the search option.

I purchased a used set of Badger rings from a SH member. Transaction was perfect by the way.

The rings have matching serial numbers so I know they are right, but the top half of both rings seems to be smaller than the bottom half. That is the top half has a several thousanths smaller diameter than the bottom. Probably a basic question, so please educate me. I can provide pics if necessary.

I now see that you can even see it in the pictures on Badgers own website. Surely somebody can teach me something basic here...

I would imagine its for clamping force.

Clamping force? I don't understand how that would affect clamping force in any way?

They'll line up on the scope tube. Don't worry about it, that's hoe they're supposed to be.

Keith's right. They should squeeze right over the tube. You should have enough clearance to squeeze down on the tube a tiny bit.

Look at the inside of the bottom rings and notice the step cut out of them. That is how they're supposed to be.
