RL15 vs Win 748 in 5.56

What is the general opinion with regard to the better propellant to use in 5.56 ammo intended for am M4 style carbine, between RL15 and WIN748?

RL 15 but if the loads are stiff and the temps get up 90-100+ pressure will rise. IMR 8208 much better temp stable meters smooth, (Reported non confirmed is used in 77gr loads for military) super preformance is .223 ES and SD

RL15 is much cleaner burning powder than Win 748 in my experiance.

My vote is RE15.

Burn rate is pretty close, but 748 being ball powder is easier to fit more in the case than RL15.

I'm loading 24.5gr W748 under 77s, at 102% load density. 24.5gr of RL15 is about 109% load density.

Similar performance with RL15 being cleaner; however, 748 measures like a dream. You can really throw consistent charges with a ball powder like 748.

Unless you have a 1/7 twist barrel RL15 might not be the best choice, most ARs have 1/9 twist barrels, hence lighter bullets.

My AR's and PSS shoot 26.1 grains 748 with 52 grains SMK's the best.

I use WC 844 for economical plinking powder in my AR.

I've been using H335 in my ARs until I got my White Oak 1 in 7, they recommended 24.4 grns of R-15 pushing 77 and 80 SMKs.

It works. I still use 335 for lighter bullets in my 1-12 barrels.

I've tried 748, its good but I've seen no advantage over 335 and RL 15.

I shot a lotof 748 15 years ago. Very accurate, meters great. It was just way too temperature sensitive.All my use of it has been with .308 look at ramshot TAC if you need somthing that meters.
