Just got back from spending a few days with Robert Gradous. As always, we had a great time and completed another amazing rifle. I had a fantastic time and can't thank Robert enough for his expertise and generosity. If you enjoy insanely accurate rifles then a trip to build with Robert Gradous should be on your "to-do" list.

I also owe Hide member Bob L Swagger a big thank you. He has given me a lot of help and advice for this build. Big thanks Bob!

    SPECS:
Caliber: 6.5x47 Lapua (set up for 123 Scenars)
Action: Surgeon 591 with APA (Jered Joplin) bolt handle
    Stock: Terry Cross Sentinel
Barrel: Krieger light varmint, 8.5 twist, finished at 27 inches
    Trigger: Timney with straight shoe
    Rings: American Rifle Company
    Scope: Kahles 624i with MSR
Weight: 16.4 pounds with scope and Harris bipod

    Parts Pile

    The man himself!

    Terry's MUNSter NV Rail

We were running short on time so we had to shoot a quick 10 round group to check feeding and extraction. This was factory Lapua 139 ammo.

Here is a video shot by myself of Robert's sub two minute chambering! (hope this works!)

I will get some picture of the completed rifle once I get everything unpacked. Thanks for looking and feel free to PM me if you have any questions.

    Thanks for looking!

Mr. Gradous & Clay hit it out of the park on this one!! Fantastic job!! I wish I was there to spend some time with you guys during this build. It doesn't get any better than that fellas! Those are the best parts money can buy screwed together by the best smith in the business! Congratulations Clay!! It was my pleasure helping and chatting with you during the course of this project!

    All the best,

    Bob

In the parts pile picture where the stock , looks like 3 barrels and a bolt , the two that look checkered aren't barrels?

I was referring to those.. They look great whatever they are!

rumor has it that Surgeon's are no good no more because Preston left, they got bought, and don't have a shooting team. You better just send me that gun and spare yourself the Hide ridicule.

Great looking rifle, I've been following you and Mr. Swaggers posts and the 6.5 x 47 is looks like will be my next Gradous build. Time to start collecting parts!
How do you like the Sentinel?

What camo is that from McMillan/KMW???

Medium tan, light tan, and woodland beige.

Painless, Gradous' 6.5x47 is magical. Everyone he does is a laser beam.

I love the Sentinel stock. They fit me very well and are very comfortable. Terry has put alot of thought into the stocks and it really shows. The downside is the wait time. This one took a few days short of a year. I don't think that is the norm but you never know.

I spoke to Terry a while back and if you call from time to time, he will sell you a stock if someone abandoned an order or if he has an extra that want take from his builds. You want be able to be picky and have to take the color he has. Its worth it though. His stocks are awesome. Well worth the price.

Beautiful, beautiful rifle! What a great experience to spend some time with a legend, too. The only downside to this build was that you posed it for a pic in poison ivy.

    Just kidding. Enjoy that stick!

Wow, what an impressive build you got yourself. I am looking forward to seeing more on this rifle, keep posting pics, range results, and your overall thoughts and I will keep reading!

How do you get threads right up to the shoulder like that? My tool hits the shoulder before I get that close. Smaller tool maybe?

    Anyway, very impressive. Looks great.

I believe it requires a special type of lathe that has a built in function that allows that type of threading instead of your typical run-out groove. Not an expert so I could be wrong.

I don't know why, but I can watch videos like the one posted forever. My 2 year old boy was watching it with me, totally intrigued. "Daddy build gun."

Thank you for the post. It is always cool watching the development of such nice rifles.

Outstanding setup you have there! Just curious, what was the lead time on that build once Mr. Gradous had all the parts in his possession?

I don't want to speak for Mr. Gradous. They wait time is long but absolutely worth it. Hell the stock alone took a year. Shoot him an email and he can give you the best estimate. Again, the wait is WORTH IT!
