My dad is building this rock fire place for some people. I thought some guys here would like it. We almost finished the bottom part of it yesterday (Don't have pictures of that)

Hope you enjoy,

Rhett

The mantle is Alligator Juniper with manzanita on the two front pieces. I was going to build one similar but I found this one the way it is for $250.00 and there is no way in hell I could build one for that, so I bought it without even thinking about it. There are a couple of local guys that have some slabs for sale and they run about $150.00 in the rough. You can also take a 4x8 and a wire brush on a grinder and make a pretty kick ass mantle that way also. Any of your local species would probably work, most of it looks great once you get it peeled and start working on it.

Re: Rock fireplace

Please don't take this wrong, but I just don't like it.
Aesthetically, it overpowers the space.

The technical aspects are good and the craftsmanship is well done.
It's just too much for where it is.
