Well I received a goody box in the mail on Friday from Roedale Precision in Germany.
In the box was the new parts for my Tikka T3 Lite...will work with all the short action CALIBERS. This included bottom metal, bolt handle, bolt shroud, screws, and new bolt stop.

Ok...so I take my Tikka apart and start putting all the new parts on it. The bolt shroud and bolt handle are VERY SIMPLE...30 sec. to install them.
I had a bolt shroud from Australia and a bolt handle from Kit here on the hide. Both are quality items, but I just wanted to give Pete's products a try. Very high quality. The bolt handle is one piece and very beefy.

Ok...the bottom metal. Please note that this is NOT a drop in fit product. And access to a mill will simplify installation. It can be done with a Dremal and thats how I did it, but a mill will make it faster and cleaner looking on the INSIDE of the stock.

Once I hog out a bunch of the inside of the stock, the bottom metal fit nice and flush with the stock and the color matches it very nicely.

Next the mag catch needed to be filed down and smoothed out a bit. It was VERY sharp and held the mag a bit to high in the receiver. Making it very tight and hard to operate the mag release.

Now my rifle is a .223 and I am using AI mags. The feed lips are thicker then then metal mags and wont seat into the receiver. So I took the rifle over to my friends and he used his mill to open up the bottom a bit to accommodate the mags.
Please note that is you are using a caliber that uses the .308 mags this is NOT a problem and you will not have to do any work to the receiver.

So...after a few hours work I had the rifle back together and at the range.
The rifle feeds flawlessly and having the extra rounds available is handy. And...I think it makes the rifle look very tacti-kool! Plus now I can run longer, heavier bullets and seat them long to take advantage of the 1:8 twist barrel. The AI mags allow much longer seating depth then the factory Tikka .223 mags.

Pete is a great guy to deal with and I would recommend these parts to anyone who does not like the stock mag system on their Tikka T3 and want something a little more robust. The bolt shroud and handle are so easy a caveman...oh wait...that ones been used!

Here are some pics...sorry for the quality.

Take care,Stan

PS...thanks to Steve at Triad for hooking me up with the .223 AI mags. Another great gent to deal with!

Glad you got it in time for your hunt Stan.

we hadn't been able to try the system with the .223 mag as we haven't seen any yet.
The T3 is rather narrow in the feed port, it does accept the steel AICS type magazines with no alteration but as you say, the .223 mags are a bit wider dictating some alterations either to the mags or to the action.

It takes me about 5 minutes with a dremel to alter a factory stock to accept the system, but its better to use a mill if one has access, its litteraly a 30 second milling job.

keeping the bottom lines of the mag system inline with the belly of the stock may dictate shortening the magazine latch,.
the latch length is set for custom stocks like the Wild Dog Varmint, and Robertson Tactical etc, they are slightly deeper than the standard T3 tupperware and dictate the slightly longer latch to have the mag at the right position.

I will have a mag system with Tom Manners and McMillan shortly so stocks can be inlet at factory for it.

all the best Pete

Pete

Is there much work to do to the current Manners stock in order to fit your DBM? It would just be for standard .308 mags.

Cheers

Ed its a straight forward job. a current Manners stock will be probably inletted for the standard T3 mag system. basicaly the widest part of the inlet needs to be widened by 0.5mm either side and then needs to be continued up through the stock.
Ths standard T3 inlet gets narrower as you go up through the stock, for our system you need a straight sided hole all the way up.
it takes 5 min with a dremel if your practiced in ones use, and realy 30 seconds on a mill.

Drop Pete a email and talk to him. I do not like quoting prices for someone elses products.
