Well, to be fair, no matter how good the comics are or are not is not what makes a comic popular. Its the content. You gotta deliver something funny or witty. When making jokes or humorous content, there is a delivery of the punch line, there can and should be some content in the drawings themselves that brings relevance and if you can, additional humorous items.
most comedy runs in 3’s. 2 unfunny parts that add validity and one is the punch line. Sometimes like the far side, the punch line is the drawing, not necessarily the words.
