Join contest SubscribeDo you know if it's legal for me to go into CT with a legally owned AR from RI? Is the ban just for purchasing or also possessing in the state? The local police department didn't seem too helpful and I don't know who I could get a reliable response from.
The way we believe it to be, you would have had to register it by Jan 1 in order to legally possess it within the iron curtain of CT. There were out of state individuals who obtained registration certificates even using an out of state address for the specific purpose of bringing their rifles into CT to shoot.I don't know if that would apply to me though, it only talks about CT residents with AR's and doesn't mention nonresidents. I would assume it is like MA where it is illegal to bring a banned gun into the state without permission. But given the fact that CT residents had the opportunity to legally register their AR's, it makes me think that there is a possibility I can join a club in CT and bring my legally owned and registered in RI AR to the range
Consider yourself lucky that you can buy modern sporting rifles still! I loaded up before the ban but there isn't a week that goes by that I don't find some product that I want to buy and can't.Thanks for digging up the answers for me, unfortunately I'll have to seek isolation in my little state for the time being
The up side is that most Leo's don't know the laws (or don't care). Case and point above (no disrespect meant).
The word from CSP is prebans can still be bought and brought into CT.
And as a State's Attorney here in CT, I can tell you that you are wrong on both accounts. There has been significant training regarding the new laws and I assure you they care whether you believe it or not.
As mentioned given the person's question, you cannot bring an unlicensed "assault weapon" as defined by the statutes into the state. There are some exceptions for LEO training and a few other things.
And because I know some would be curious: 1. I am NOT exempt from the new laws and 2. I think they're stupid too.
I am trying to picture where 1000 yds in Groton would be without shooting over the sub base. =) I'm in the greater Shithole (Hartford) area and I would gladly join such a place as owning a .408 Cheytac in CT is pretty damn dumb as I am realizing.
Enforcement or legislators? The attack on prebans is coming next my friends... Trust me.
