RPR in 6 mm or 6.5 ?

I went to Whitaker’s today for the purpose of buying a RPR.
They had one RPR in 6.5 for $1089.00.
I found a 6mm RPR for $749.00 on the internet. My cousin is a ffl license dealer and said he would order one for me on Monday.
Im dead set on getting one in 6mm.
Is there a good reason to go with the 6.5 over the 6?
I reload so that’s not a factor.
Thoughts?

I own both no reason whatsoever to get the 6.5 unless you are wanting to buy some factory ammo.

Barrel life is much better with 6.5. I shot rpr 6.5 last year, two barrels worth. Shot 2000 6 Creedmoor this year in MPA rifles. If shooting PRS, or a specific purpose, maybe go 6. If not 6.5 would be my suggestion, barrel life likely 2500-3000. Common 6 Creedmoor barrel life is about half that.

Barrel life for this type of gun should be a non issue.. it takes 15m to change the barrel. The barrels are sitting on shelves with no wait. Shoot h1000 in that 6cm and you will hardly tell the difference in barrel life and get some nice velocity. The $300 difference will buy him another 6cm barrel or a 6.5 for that matter.

If barrels were $300, that would be convenient. Barrel life is considerably less with 6 Creedmoor. Aside from that, one has to think about intended usage. Vast majority of guys will gain nothing going with a 6 over a 6.5. Slightly less recoil, more wind drift at distance, and much less barrel life. You need a good reason to make that decision in my opinion.

H1000 the benefits are real, I shot 243 for years and have extended life out past 2k rounds.

I say I have used H1000 and I have but honestly I dont bother now, back in the day when I had to be at the mercy of a gunsmith who worked at his own pace I was concerned about barrel life... Now I realize they are expendables, just like brass and I will never own another rifle that I cant change the barrel on at home. My custom I actually change at the range thanks to the Barloc system.

That's a cheap barrel for sure. My RPR Patriot valley barrel was $600. It shoots in same hole though, high quality barrel. With 7000 6 and 6.5 rounds fired this past 18-20 months, I still think a guy should have a reason to pick 6 Creedmoor over 6.5. Going to 6 Creedmoor wasn't all I had thought it would be, shooting and reloading. Throat erosion and chasing lands, along with worse wind performance past 600-800 compared to 6.5. I'm shooting Dasher and my 6 creeds now, but next blank will be chambered in 6.5x47. Suspect Dasher and 47 will be my main two match rigs next year. Mainly due to consistency, less finnicky to maintain loads, and barrel life.

6.5x47 you will love, its amazing on barrel and brass... I just cant get away from 260 to go back I like that extra little fps lol. The dasher though.... either that or a 28" 6BR are high on my list of projects.

I have that same barrel but in 6. I haven't installed it yet to test out.

$749 for a 6mm RPR is dirt cheap. I'd go for that and if you decide you don't like the 6mm you can always sell the barrel and get a 6.5 barrel. You'll have a better than stock 6.5 and still just be a little over the cost of a new 6.5 RPR.

I love shooting the 6CM RPR. Recoil is non existent and as a bonus they are always cheaper than the 6.5 variety.

I now own a RPR in 6 Creedmoor. Couple of questions? I have a Vortex Razor gen2 4.5-27x56 scope for the rifle.
What height rings will give me Vortex scope caps clearance ?
What would you suggest for a starting load using the 108 ELDM ?
I picked up a box of the 108 ELDM and a 50 ct of brass just to get up and running.

AR height rings is what you need. 1.5” range.

Try 40.5-41.5 of H4350.

1.26 provide plenty of clearance if you don’t have a top rail on the Handguard.

For me, its not so much handguard clearance, but cheek piece clearance. With 1.5" rings, my cheek piece is all the way down as low as it will go. But then again I have big giant cheeks.
