Ruger 10/22-TD Take Down Review

Finished up my review of the Ruger 10/22-TD Take Down rifle and I am impressed. Not sure if the whole take-down action essentially free-floating the barrel is impacting accuracy, however this was a whole lot more accurate than any standard 10/22 Carbine I have shot.

Pretty cool little rifle, although not sure why they chose to use an 18.5" barrel vs a 16.1" which would have trimmed weight and size.

There are a couple of other threads on here about this rifle.
If one of you computer Gurus know how, I think it would be good to combine them all and get everyones input. I sure as hell don't know how to do that. Maybe everyone that has posted on the previous threads could gang up here? Regards, FM

I am not sure I understand how this is a free floating barrel. It looks to me that the forearm is attached to the barrel in at least two places.

I think if you hold the gun by the magwell the barrel will be free floating since the stock isn't attached to the receivers stock. I dont' know how they call it free floating either.

On one of the threads farther into Rimfire on this rifle I posted about my TD rifle having failure to feed problems some times and not other times.
It finally got worse and would not go well at all.
The problem was a protruding firing pin on the bolt face. It was hung up good but could be pushed back with a screwdriver and function again until it hung up again.
I am glad it did not slamfire or I would of had an unwanted Class III.
I took it back to Cabelas and they replaced it plus a $20 gift certificate. Cost on a sale was $319 so I guess that was about right or a little high but the customer service was right in there. Show them the problem and they gave me a new one, no questions. At least I am not sending it back to Ruger for repair.
I hope it was just that one rifle but would advise anyone with a failure to feed problem to look closely at the bolt face and see that there is no firing pin protrusion, should not be able to see the pin forward of the bolt face. I do like the rifle when it worked right and will start at the range in the AM to see if this one is OK. Impressed with the accuracy so far so think this new one will be better if it locks up right every time. Regards, FM

I went out and shot the replacement rifle today.
So far, operation is flawless and accuracy good.
Not enough rounds yet to know how well it will shoot, but I am happy so far.
I think the other rifle was a Friday afternoon or Monday morning piece, thrown together with nothing but the left over parts from that shift with everyone just wanting to go home.
The trigger on the replacement rifle is much better but I will do something to make it better. All fits are better such as alignment of the barrel and stock/reciever group.
That is the first Ruger firearm that I have ever had that was bad and I feel it was one of thousands that isn't right.
So far, I am happy with the one I have and will post if I have any problems with it. Regards, FM
