I received my new Ruger American Rifle Hunter 6.5cm 20" yesterday, mounted a Nikon FX1000 4-16 and Harris Bi-Pod and took it to the range today to zero and familiarize.

Shot 30 rounds @100 yds, cleaned and polished the barrel (losso) several times. So far so good. The 140 gr S&B and 130 gr Norma match shot pretty good. group2.jpggroup1.jpg 120 Gr Hornady was so so.....

The action and DBM seem tight ...... I lightly polished the bolt and it has already improved.

Overall pretty happy with the performance for an economy setup. The Magpul stock is pretty nice. I am using rings 0.5 inch above rail....not sure yet about that.....may need to dial that in a little better with different rings or cheekpiece.

There are many opinions as to break-in procedure...... Each person decides what they do with a new barrel, if anything, to break it in.

For me, I shoot 5-10 rounds clean with a solvent, dry patch, then run 25 or so passes with a bore paste....in this case Losso (some use J B bore compound). Losso and JB are paste cleaners....They act to polish and remove minor imperfections as well as remove carbon and copper.

After I run the passes with the Losso I re-clean with Hoppes, dry patch and shoot 5-10 more and repeat the process with Losso. Usually will do that a total of 4 times. Then I (usually) will use a paste cleaner occasionally.

I have 2 american predators (243 and 6.5). Put the MDT stocks on them, they shoot well with this combo.

I have replaced both of the triggers with the timney, and I too believe that the trigger up grade is worth it.
