I was given a Ruger M77 Hawkeye Stainless in .308 for my birthday from my step dad. He knows that I have been getting into bolt action rifles lately and thought he was doing something good.

The problem is I already have a fully custom 6.5 creed (defiance, Manners, razor GenII). I really have no use for this rifle or Nikon scope and really want a .223.

I have no idea what this rifle is worth or what I could trade it for. I also no NOTHING about Ruger rifles.

It was a surprise to say the least as he hasn’t ever bought me anything like this but I wish he would have asked more questions.

As for now it’s just going to set around and not get shot. I really have zero interest in a lightweight .308 deer rifle.

Anyway to covert it to .223? I doubt it since it’s a .308 boot face but really don’t have a clue.

What should I do? I don’t want to look like I’m ungrateful because I am just not my style at all.

You can (I think) convert it to 22-250, 22BR, or 22Dasher with just a re-barrel. You can sell it. You can trade it. Or you can just let it sit there as a reminder that someone cared enough to think about you.

I can't think of anything else you could do with it.

He was doing something good. Try it out - some of them are shooters. Mine is a short barrel 308, but shoots well out past 850 yards with my loads. And it is pleasant to shoot. Not a "match" gun, but very accurate and fun to.
