Howdy,
I’m the guy who only shoots Service Rifle Master-class when I use my Compass Lake AR. I grew up on the M-14 from the DCM, bought a nice Garand for little money, and loved both weapons, but couldn’t ever get my awful-hand scores or my rapid-fire scores into master-class. Now, I have access to a 1-mile range with plenty of steel. The Compass Lake AR15 with 77 gr loads is fine to 800. I would like to hit the gong at the mile mark, just because. Looking at the amount of cash needed to obtain an accurate rifle in a caliber I would like (300 Win Mag or 338 Lapua), I notice the Ruger on a gun shop table, and check it out. Like my first self-bought handgun, a Ruger Security-Six, it is a plain Jane thing, built to cost and complete a certain function. No drama, no fine lines, no high polish or fancy goodies. Looks like a guy that grew up during the 30’s sketched it out and gave it to his machinists. Looks solid, all the parts work smoothly enough, mags appear to be good and the price is right. My new Leupold MK5 will fit. Barrels can be swapped out by a guy who has swapped out many a Garand barrel, worn out by cleaning rods, or killing enemy. So, for a guy who will clean this rifle after each use, probably only use it to shoot known distance targets after ranging for his dope book, and shoot only hand-loads, what are the downers regarding the Ruger RPR?
Thanks for your advice🎯

This is prolly the main downside. Don’t be this guy...

The biggest downer for me was the chassis. Functionally it was great, I just wanted something more...custom, instead of a cookie cutter profile that anyone can ID from 100 yards away. I ended up switching to a Ruger American Predator in an Oryx chassis:

The Ruger American shares many parts with the RPR. The action threads are the same (this is actually an RPR barrel in the pic), the bolt is nearly identical, as well as the trigger. Check out the RPR trigger mod for a sub 1lb trigger pull.

The RPR is impossible to beat for the $$.
I wouldn’t want to bet my life on it, and ever time I take one to the range it serves as a huge fudd magnet, but they perform very well for what they cost. Upgrading the stock to a magpul is a must imho.

so I was wrong it was not bought out yet but it could be bought out not by the Chinese / Japanese but the Navajo nation.
I live and work 15 mins from that shit hole. I know alot of people that work there. Most are druggy or alcoholics working in that place. Its a shame but i would NEVER by a remington because i know whos building that garbage

No downside to buying one. If i was you buy a used one and re barrel to what ever caliber you want. I did and switch the barrel to akrieger 30 inch, 10 twist, straight 1 inch bull barrel and im pushing 175 sierra match kings at 2830 fps. They have a huge following for after market parts and you can upgrade as you go. The action is plenty stiff to hang a barrel like mine of it.
