I just purchased a Ruger precision rimfire and a swfa 3-15x42. I’m hoping to use as a trainer rifle and possibly some nrl22.

I’m needing some good rings that won’t break the bank. Any recommendations?

Also I’m ordering a wheeler fat wrench and wheeler leveling system. I need some cheap ideas on how to level the rifle while mounting the scope. I normally use a bench vise with barrel jaw inserts. The barrel only sticks out 2&1/2 inches past the rail. Is that enough to grab and hold onto? I don’t want to buy tools to take the rail off just to mount the scope. I also don’t want to buy an expensive gun vise just to mount it.

Thanks guys!

I used Weaver Extra high Quad rings with a 6-24X42 Hawke Vantage SF. Fits perfectly and I was able to zero at 50 yds and less with that set up. Same set up on 2 different rifles, works well.

These rings available at Wally World for less than $20.

How much clearance do you have between barrel and scope? Most people on other forums were saying to use medium rings if the scope is 42mm.

To level scope I set the rifle in a gun vise/cradle, level on top of the scope mount/rail. After mounting scope loose in rings I set the vertical crosshair with a plumb line. Continue to check level on rifle and crosshair on the plumb line until scope rings are snugged up. When satisfied, tighten rings.
