    Unsichbar,

    Russian Primers.

    What are they - primers

    Who makes - the russians

Who sells them - lots of folks; they are imported by Wolf, but when you buy them by the case the wolf boxes come inside a cool looking white box with Russian cyrilic (sp) writing on it).

What do they cost - varies by vendor, look at Powder Valley, Graf's etc.

Are they generally avaiable - yes, lots of people carry them

Yes they shoot great in my 6x47 Lapua.

you need to be specific on your questions or you really general answers.

    Re: Russian Primers

Most people associate Russian primers with "Wolf" brand. They're fine in my experience, I have never had an issue with them. Powder Valley carries them, and they're the most economical out there.

When I did the studies on benchrest primers 4 years ago the Russian brand I used was IDT green box, (No Heavy Metals). The primer cups are copper. I got consistantly lower SD numbers with both benchrest rifles I was using.

The IDT primers had the lowest numbers. Next was Winchester then the old Federal primers and then the new Federal primers.

David Tubbs won a match last summer using Wolf primers and purchased 400,000 of them. That's a good enough endorsement for me.I bought mine from Wideners. They are great to deal with.

I know for a fact that the Wolf Large Rifle Primer is the same KVB-7 primer that Bob Jones use to get in small batches 7-8 years ago. It is from the same exact plant and has the same part number. They are boxed differently but that is it. I use to buy from him when the Palma shooters and David Tubb wasn't drying

I paid more for them then than I do now.

    Re: Russian Primers

I have had great luck with Wolf's in both small and large rifle. The one thing you need to do with the Wolf's is seat them in solidly, quite a few people have had misfires or very short hangfires until they seated them deep enough. I had used a Lee primer for years and switched over to a K&M primer to get the Wolfs seated where they need to be. I also broke two Lee primer tools seating SRM primers.

Use the magnum primers if you are going to using max loads as the cups are stronger. I know that the amount of compound of the standard and magnum small rifles have the same amount of compound. I believe this is also true of the large rifles.

I think I nave shot 3,000 wolf primers in the last 6 months.

For the Wolf/Russain Small rifle Magnum Prmiers, the only difference between the regular and the magnum Primers is that teh magnum has a slightly harder cup material and can take a bit higher pressures without showing cratering. The mix is idential for both.
