I was all over the news here for days. Looks like a good shoot to everyone that's anyone.

LESSON LEARNED: YOU JUST DON'T ANSWER YOUR OWN FRONT DOOR WITH A GUN IN YOUR HAND TO GREET THE COPS ON YOUR OWN PORCH OR YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY F-ING DEAD IN AZ. WHITE OR BLACK. ANYBODY. SO PLEASE TAKE NOTE, THATS HOW THEY ROLL. YOU CAN ASSERT YOUR SECOND AMENDMENT RIGHTS IN HEAVEN OR HELL, BUT NOT IN THIS CIRCUMSTANCE.

Every LEO I’ve talked to said this was a bad shot.

Don’t open the door. That’s the lesson.

It's dark outside, police uniforms are usually dark blue or black, and they apparently weren't standing within view of the peephole. Victim's brother alleged that they couldn't hear the police ID themselves over the sound of video games. Opening the door, even with a gun, is not a great idea if you can't ID the people on the other side of it.

So , are they just standing there talking while he bleeds out? Are they rendering aid at all? I don't hear sirens of the EMS coming or anything? I can initially hear him groaning, so he wasn't dead yet. Is there not a duty to try and save his life, even if this wasn't a mistake, which it clearly was.

Dude was an idiot, and as tragic as this is I don't blame the cop for firing, but I do blame him if he watched the guy die and did nothing.

To me that's a crime.

Bad shoot in every way. Dumb for coming out, but police have to assume impairment of some sort when people are answering the door, especially at night. Drunk, high, just woken up or whatever. You flash a bright ass flashlight in someones eyes how is he supposed to know who you are, although he was complying. Seriously scary shit.

Looked bad to me. As said above he was blinded, he was getting on his knees and not pointing the gun. Cop over reacted and will get away with it.

Never open the door, you dont know who the fuck it might be.

And not bothering to render aid.

Shit.

Agreed. I dunno about getting away with it, but we will see. I can see how two idiots meet and one ends up dead, surprised it doesn’t happen more often.

If it's night time, I answer the door every time with a gun in my hand, not in a holster...every time. And yes, I've had the police knock on my door at night, but, unlike this guy, I identified who it was and set the gun down, before ever opening the door. There's no way I'm opening the door to cops with a gun in my hand, unless I want to end up like this guy.

Lesson to be learned......shoot thru the door. So let's say the rolls were reversed. The resident saw armed guys dressed in dark uniforms, as antifa does or blm, thinks it's a home invasion and blast the cop. How would that have played out? I say the leo should be tried for murder. At no time did the guy point or make a move to use his weapon. And the rest of them there should be accomplices to murder. No one verified the address or help the guy after they shot him. Where is justice?

They didn't even give the guy a chance to comply. Then they make the girlfriend, wife or whatever she was stand there and listen to him die. Never attempted to render aid whatsoever. Pretty sure if I did that they'd call it murder.

Didn't see much since they blurred it out. But looked like he was kneeling and raising his hands. I have answered the door plenty of times holding a gun.

I'm withholding my vote, but simply holding a gun doesn't mean the cops get to gun you down. There had better be more to it to justify his killing.

BTW that sounded like agonal breathing. Think he was beyond help.

They really need to stop hiring police from the ranks of the Dumbs... I hope the shooter goes to jail. Forever.

banging on the door, out of sight of the peep hole, flashing super bright light in the eyes, immediately... that was an ambush

Standing out of the fatal funnel is protocol.
The cop doing all the talking at first, was okay, task directing etc...
His trigger happy partner, that also failed to render aid on the other hand, should be arrested.

I agree. Sent chills up my spine. My brother did the same thing when he went via heart attack. I started CPR while he was still carping.
CPR and attempting to stop exsanguination is not protocol? I get playing it safe in a shootout, but fuck! What IS protocol? Stand there while making excuses and watch the guy die? I’d have said fuckit, shoot me too, and started CPR.

Would not be my first failure to revive, but far better than a lifelong regret of standing there and doing nothing.

fair enough on the peep, but how am I , as a citizen, supposed to know you're a bona fide cop when you deny me any means of verifying who you are and when I open the door I'm essentially incapacitated with a blinding light and yelling? Do I need training on how to answer my door so cops don't shoot me in front of my family?

Police need to realize its not MY responsibility to make their job safe and that they own the interaction and how it goes so long as I don't act illegally.

Start by asking "who is it?" before opening the door.
Don't open the door all the way, keep your firearm concealed.
If they ask you to step out, inform them you are armed and will be setting your gun down and stepping away from it.
If you have serious doubts, tell those folks that you are going to call dispatch and see if the cops have been sent to your door.

I am NOT saying the poor guy did anything wrong, far from it.
I have answered the door, late at night, when the Police came knocking. I was armed. I kept the gun behind me and opened the door a few inches.
They weren't there for me, they were there because some folks had illegally parked in front of the house and they were trying to figure out what home the car owners were visiting.

From a legal standpoint we have to remember that it is NOT illegal for someone to answer the door with a gun either in their hand or on their person regardless if the person knocking on the door is a cop or not so long as the gun is not being drawn. The death of Ryan Whitaker is very similar to the death of Daniel Shaver in that they followed orders and still paid for it with their lives. I recommend you all find a better video instead of the one I posted because the one I originally saw on a podcast was uncensored and showed different angles and slow motion to prove the cop was clearly in the wrong by shooting Whitaker in the back while he was complying with orders.

I just saw it to. They have the cam of the cop who shot him. The guy didn’t even know there was someone behind him and after saw the cop in front of him put the gun behind him. Then dropped to both knees with free hand up and gun on the ground and was shot in the back.

We all might want to take a deep breath, stand back and wait for the autopsy. I’m curious how much fentanyl, methamphetamine, hydrocodone and THC he had on board.
No deep breaths needed. Here's the cop cam. Looks like he was an avid outdoorsman not a junkie. It also has the call from the neighbor who called in the disturbance. Sounds like a pussy who had a grudge. Looks like murder to me.

I doubt he had any.
Relax....I doubt he had any drugs on board either. I'm being facetious. It would only be taken into account if he was white which he is. Not like Floyd who was all doped up and it doesn't matter.

We should have exactly that whenever and with whoever this kind of shit happens. I"m frankly sick of the shit about 'only a small percentage'. Fuck that. If the majority are such good guys then they have blood on their good hands for allowing so many shitbirds to exist amongst their ranks. So much of the crap going on right now is because the SILENT ones. I don't care if 99% of interactions are non factors, the 1% is high grade bad and awful.

And don't get me started on asset forefeiture.

Wow! That was messed up. Reminds me of this kid that got shot in the hallway of a hotel, also complying. Cops don’t have easy jobs but stuff like this is certainly not winning them any favors with the public. I also have to say this, the guy that actually shot him may have been reacting from his partner yelling gun gun gun that’s what probably made him react. If your half paying attention because you’ve been working long hours and haven’t ate and all of a sudden your partner freaks out and yells gun gun gun, like someone is fixing to shoot then yeah I could see how one might overreact, but that’s still no excuse. No I think all 3, both cops and the one that called it in definitely need to be charged. On the other hand. I can see how people screaming at a game or whatever could come across as a domestic dispute to. I typically give people the benefit of the doubt tho and this guy didn’t receive any of that. I’m floored. This is not a good shoot by any means.

When I see stuff like this happen; sometimes I begin to wonder if the police should be de-funded.
They will just step up their asset forfeiture game to stay funded. Have you ever seen any government related agency wither away once it was created?

Tough call but the ones that do this kind of murder should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
Exactly. Now for a hypothetical factor thrown into this sad story.

Let's say the girlfriend had access to an AR-15 or pistol and just saw her BF murdered like that. Let's say she sends a hail storm of lead out the door into the killers and sending them to the great precinct in the sky.

What would happen to her?

Let's say that Ryan in the act of complying gets shot at but the cops miss and he returns fire because he's fearing for his life. What would happen to him?

I was on another forum years ago and posted the scenario of a person open carrying on the street. The side arm is holstered. Everything the person OCing is doing is legal.

Someone calls 911 with a MWAG call. The cops show up and draw their sidearms on the person OCing. They tell him to put his hands up in the air. He complies.

However, one of the cops has an ND sending a round at the man but misses. My question was; "What if you are the man open carrying? Do you return fire to protect yourself? ....OR are you going to keep your hands in the air and wait for the cop to say 'oops. Sorry about that.?"

The moderators on that forum deleted the thread because they thought I was being too critical of cops in general.
