Hello to all. I wanted to post pics of my new build from Mark at Short Action Customs. I began corresponding with Mark in May of this year about a build. I already had a Surgeon591 in hand.

I just want to say Mark has been great to deal with and I'm so happy I used him. He has a customer for life! Posted below is the specs and a couple pics of some groups at 100 yards. I attended a small class yesterday and did not have a lot of time to shoot groups for accuracy. The group with the single round up top, then 5 five below was shot by Kyle Lee. The other group was shot by me. I had no problems hitting 6" hostage/popper target at 375 and 6"x9" squares at 500.

Even hit a 22"x22" twice out of five shots at 1050 yards. Elevation was good just wind that got me. All shooting done with 175 SMK's loaded by McCourt Munitions.

    Specs:
    Surgeon591 with S.A.C. "LBC" mod
    Surgeon DBM
Brux 17.5" M24 barrel with 1-11.25 Chambered SAC .308 Reamer
    Surfeire 762SS Muzzle Brake
    McMillan A3-5 50% Tan/35% OD/15% Blk
    Timney Trigger @ 2.5lbs
    Harris 6x9 w/Podlock
    Nightforce 3-15x50 NPR-1
Barreled Action coated in Cerakote OD and other in Black.

First 6 rounds shot by Kyle. No break in what so ever.

Last group I shot, 5 rounds, this thing stacks them!
(2 rounds to the left are not included in the 5 round)

that sir is a good looking rifle. I also got a rifle built by Mark this year - he is a great guy to deal with and makes a very nice rifle.

If you get a chance, can you list your MV you are getting out of that short barrel?
    Thanks </div></div>

I just listed a small review in the McCourt Munitions thread in the commercial sales section. I got an average of 2529 at 48 degrees farenheit. I'm pretty sure load got a little hotter as the temps went up. By mid afternoon it was 67 degrees and I had to back my elevation down. It probably warmed up to around 2545-2550 fps.

Ammo was crazy accurate. ES was 9 and S. Deviation was 25

    Re: S.A.C. 17.5" Surgeon/Brux Combo

I love the shorty. Plan on running a suppressor by mid summer.

Mark had to send the gun out to me by Friday and he couldn't coat the bottom metal but I think I like it black. It seems to match the other stuff so I might leave it black.

    Re: S.A.C. 17.5" Surgeon/Brux Combo

    Rifle looks great!
Mark builds a dang fine rifle and clearly you are doing a great job running the trigger. I like to think the ammo helped a bit also!

Any time I can be of assistance, don't hesitate to contact me.

Let me add that it's the RAD camo pattern that puts the mix in the vertical instead of just a swirl. I love it!

Pusher your new rifle is super sick, love the components and the colors. Would love to see some more range pics when you get a chance.

I do like that difference, first one I have noticed like that.

I will try to post some more pics tonight or tomorrow. I have a small Sony digital, nothing fancy. I have some pics of all the guys on the line and of the range but you can't really see too much on the range because the targets are set out so far.

It was a great trip, and I will be shooting there more come spring.

This gun was more then I expected and I hope I never have to let it go. Im also happy I went with the Surgeon/Brux combo. The barrel is top notch, and obviously accurate. I wouldn't change a thing.

I might even buy another barrel and do a 6.5 Creed switchbarrel....:)

    Re: S.A.C. 17.5" Surgeon/Brux Combo

    Taylor,

The rifle looks better down south than it does up here in Ohio. Its windy, rainy and cold!!

I'm glad we were able to get it done in time for the shoot, and that you are a capable driver. Let me know how I can help in the future.

    Andrew,

Great job on the ammo, it looks like you sent Taylor some good loads!

    Re: S.A.C. 17.5" Surgeon/Brux Combo

Thanks Mark, I'm definately not the best shooter but I shoot a lot of AR stuff so fundamentals of marksmanship still apply. I want to thank you again for building such a hammer, I never doubted you produce anything less but I'm still so impressed with the product I received.

Those were really the only two groups I had, but it was obviously shooting! Andrew's ammo was really nice. I wanted to have him work up a load with the JLK's but the load he sent me was dead nuts accurate so I think I will stick with it. Cost was just a hair higher then FGMM but accuracy was better then hand loads so it was worth it.

Going to head out to the range 2 Saturday's from now to do sone dot drills at a 100 and see how small of groups I can shoot with it. Have to make it fun cause I'm limited to a 100 locally.

AMEN! Can you Cerakote a Suppressor to match your barreled action? Do the suppressors get hotter then the barrel? Just wondering if the Cerakote would hold up to the heat. Probably just get a suppressor cover to keep mirage down anyway.

Yes you can. I know Thunderbeast gives you the option.

My rifle is at Marks now. Hopefully I'm close to the top of the list

    Re: S.A.C. 17.5" Surgeon/Brux Combo

That's quite the little number you have there mister! I'm liking the shorty the more I look at it. Makes me think I should have gone short on my last build. Next one will wear an 18" tube.

    Very nice.

    Re: S.A.C. 17.5" Surgeon/Brux Combo

Very nice build! I really like the color combo also. How do you like the LBC mod? Were you ever able to run the action prior to the mod? Been thinking about doing it to a 591 also.

I had the action in hand before I sent it to Mark but to be honest I can't tell by just that. What I can tell you, the action is smooth as butta! It was tight when I first got it but after working the bolt a few times then running about 120 rounds through it in that class it feels like it's on ball bearings. Two finger manipulation is all it takes. I attribute the tight bolt to the fresh Cerakote. I was kind of worried at first about doing the 'LBC' to the Surgeon, thinking it might affect accuracy but as you can see it didn't. I'm very happy with it.

The way Mark and a few others explain it, it just works. I'm thinking I'm going to have to bite on it in a few months. Thanks!

    Re: S.A.C. 17.5" Surgeon/Brux Combo

I did forget to thank the people that helped me with this so I would like to do that now. First goes to Greg Young (bugholes) for the barrel. Next goes to Ozzie Suarez for recommending Mark when Ozzie himself was unable to build it. Black-X in Kentucky for the scope and once again Mark for making the magic happen. McMillan did a fantastic job as well getting the stock to me.
Can't forget Andrew for the great ammo.

Finally thanks goes to SnipersHide community for having such a great place to come to, to learn, and enjoy this great sport. This is by far the best precision shooting forum EVER!

Shooting a little on Saturday. Goods times. The groups below were the only ones shot cause we has limited sunlight time, and moved back to start plinkin steal.

This is my first 5 shot at 100 for the day. Little slack but I warmed up.
    2jgk1x.jpg

Below is a 3 shot just below the 4 with some M118LR. it was suppose to be a 5 round group but I got two light primer strikes or either those primers were harder. It was on its way to a good group, the M118LR is good stuff.
At the five thats a 10 shot at 100.

    Below is a 10 shot at 200! I counldn't ask for anything better. Shooting McCourt 175 SMK's

    Re: S.A.C. 17.5" Surgeon/Brux Combo

I'm extrmely happy with it, just waiting on the Surefire Suppressor now. It's gonna be a wicked little combo!

I asked earlier in the thread about cerakoteing a suppressor and I know it can be done but does anyone know if it can be done to a Surfeire?

Yeah, I'm happy with it. I hope I can get it at/hair above 2600 with the suppressor and having Andrew seat the SMK's for the Type 2 mags.
