S&W 15-22 issue

Re: S&W 15-22 issue

Nope, sorry can't help, but mine seems to shoot everything she's fed with no hick-ups. Really impressed with this little rifle. It may be the mag, try a different one...if not make sure the rifle is lubed well.

Good luck

Yea, this...if its the old springs I bet that's the issue and it needs a trip back to the factory to be fixed and no more issues at all.

Re: S&W 15-22 issue

I bought it a little over a year and a half ago. The bolt spring is, I would say sort of brownish. Definitely not silvery or black. All ammo is hi-velocity, Rem, Win or CCI. Some hollow point some solid. Doesn't seem to matter.

Re: S&W 15-22 issue

The new bolt springs are blue. At least that's what came back on the rifle I sent back to S&W for repair and a blue one also came on the Performance Center model I just bought.

I had to send the first rifle back to S&W because I got a bad round that blew the extractor out and broke the feed ramp off. It was really bizzare! S&W fixed it and I had the rifle back in a couple of weeks. Still shoots really good. If I recall correctly, it had a brownish colored spring too, but now sports the new blue one.

Re: S&W 15-22 issue

So I went on to a S&W forum site and found out that they have upgraded the spring. Also all three of my 25 rd mags are "1st generation" and they are replacing those as well with 2nd generation ones. So gun and mags are going for a trip back to the factory.

Re: S&W 15-22 issue

Sorry I haven't checked back to this thread. Yup, it needs a blue spring and you will be GTG. It is a definite blue in color not even close to black.

My sons M&P15 will eat anything you put in it. It does have the Blue spring.

For free as long as you are the individual with the registered warranty. One guy on the S&W forum I was on said they even threw in an extra new mag for his trouble.

Re: S&W 15-22 issue

Just got my 15-22 back today from S&W. They replaced the bolt spring with the blue one and replaced all three of my 25 round mags with the new 2nd generation ones. +1 for customer service! I am so far a happy camper, will see if I can get to the range this weekend to see if the problem is solved.

Re: S&W 15-22 issue

How do you know if the mags are 1st generation or 2nd generation ones?

I just purchased a 15-22 yesterday and it has the blue spring on the bolt. I bought 2 mags last year knowing I would eventually get one. I see no difference in the mags I bought last year and the one it came with.

Thanks

Dino

Dino, I wondered the same thing and found this on the S&W Forum. Don't know if factual - 2nd Gen mags are ID'd as follows:
above the S&W logo on the right side of the mag is
22 LR
25 ROUND

I have a relatively new (1yr) 15-22, has the "blue" bolt spring, and mags as described above. I have never had a FTFeed, FTFire, or FTE, even with junk bulk Rem ammo.
