Anyone have any info on the S&W M&P 40c (compact)? Good, bad or what? Feedback? Also looking at Kahr PM40's. (really looking at the M&P 40c). Easily concealable? Accurate? (both guns)
Thanks

Re: S&W M&P 40c and Kahr PM 40??????????????

The M&P's are good pistols from what I gather but I have only fired them on a few occasions.

The Kahr PM pistols are great. I have the PM9 and love the size, weight and reliability. I have fired the .40 and would recommend going with the 9mm version. The recoil of the .40 is very sharp and snappy and it gets uncomfortable to shoot pretty quickly.

Re: S&W M&P 40c and Kahr PM 40??????????????

The PM40 is snappy but it is not the most unpleasant to shoot pistol I own. It is tiny for a .40 S&W (same external dimensions as a PM9) and every pistol Kahr makes is designed expressly for CCW. I know people who carry wallets that are thicker than my PM40. I've been carrying one in an IWB Comp-Tac Minotaur whenever it's warm for better than three years, sometimes wearing nothing more than a T-shirt and cutoffs. It's so light and comfortable I sometimes forget it's there (until I sit down) and I have never been 'made.'

The best part of the PMs is the trigger. Pull is a bit long but gloriously smooth and uniform.

I own and carry a S&W M&P 40 compact on a daily basis. It is very easy for me to conceal in a IWB holster and is very accurate. It has fired around 1500rds with no problems at all. I just added CTC laser grips to it and I think it is one of the best CCH's. I have no experience with the Kahr, other than handling a few in the shop, they feel nice and from what I have heard they are reliable.

Re: S&W M&P 40c and Kahr PM 40??????????????

I have a Kahr P40 (Not the PM). I love the size of it! A little more of a handful than the P40 to control the recoil. It works very well for what I wanted. Otherwise I would have went for the P40. M&Ps were to thick for what I wanted. Mine rides in a TT Gunleather IWB (T-shirt no problem).

I was looking for something that I could go shopping with the wife and not have the bulge of "GUN" but still have something that felt like a gun when I needed it. This was the perfect choice for me!

A lot depends on body size/build on what you can conceal the way YOU want!

Re: S&W M&P 40c and Kahr PM 40??????????????

I've got an M&P 40c, and I love it. I've had zero problems with it; clean, dirty, 3 different brands and weights of ammunition in one magazine, one handed, weak handed... I can't screw it up. I carry it in a CompTac CTAC holster and have no issues concealing it in anything I wear, from shorts and a t-shirt to jeans or pants with a button-up shirt. Everyone who's shot it has enjoyed it, and I think the recoil is quite manageable for a compact .40.

My wife has one as well, and she loves it. When we got hers new last year, every now and then the slide would lock back with one round left in the magazine. We sent it to S&W (free) and got it back 2 weeks later with a new slide release (free) and haven't had a single issue in the hundreds of rounds since then.

If I had to do it all over again, I would probably get the M&P 9c. 9mm is easier to find around here, cheaper to practice with, and the 9 has two more rounds per mag. Either way though, I don't think you can go wrong. I really enjoy the adjustable backstraps, so you can get a solid grip no matter what size your hands are. Go buy one now, and I think that S&W is currently offering two free magazines or a $50 rebate through the mail. Do it.

M&Pc - piss poor design with the hole in the barrel and top slide. Was watching some show on they poured just a little powder in there and the gun stopped. Couldn't get it to go again until they cleaned it.

piss poor design with the trigger bar disconnect.

kahr's In my experience the one I had was a a POS paperweight. If yer gonna get one get the all metal version and get the smallest one. I couldn't hit a damn thing with it. I did hit the target (7yds) after I threw the gun at it.

Please explain the hole in the barrel & top slide? The only hole mine has in the barrel is the one the bullet goes through, and the two holes in the slide are made for the ejection & barrel to run through respectively.

I agree about the trigger bar disconnect; it doesn't make any sense to me why they couldn't just have it taken apart like a Glock or even an XD.

Re: S&W M&P 40c and Kahr PM 40??????????????

I use a compact 40 M&P as a backup while in uniform (issue is the full size). I sometimes use it as an off-duty gun when not carrying the full size pistol. I had to send it back right after buying it but it's been fine since.

Just get a 9mm conversion barrel and a mag or two and you will have the best of both worlds.
