UPDATE AT BOTTOM OF POST
So I picked up a new S&W shield 40 last weekend at a gun show because it was a steal of a price and I missed having one. Prior to this one I had both a 9mm and 40 right after they first came out. I went out today to do some shooting and to shoot it a bit as well. I had 3 mags loaded up (1 - 6rd, 2 - 7rd) with federal HST's which were the first rounds to go through it. Round number one went bang, it cycled fine, slide went completely into battery but the trigger acted like wasn't engaging the sear like it didn't recock. Finally on the 20th or so pull it decided to fire, next round same thing, then a couple went bang and then it would randomly do the same thing throughout the three mags.
After that I loaded it up with WWB and the next three mags ran flawless, then the next three, then the next three. It happened again twice more, after about 60 rounds of WWB and then again on the last few rounds left. So I ran another 40 or so rounds of HST's through it and it didn't do it again.
Has anybody else had this issue? It doesn't exactly give me confidence in it as a carry gun. I've never had this happen before with a new quality pistol so I don't believe it's a matter of breaking in. Has anybody dealt with S&W's customer service?
*UPDATE*
So I figured out that a tight two handed grip and the extended mags cause the mag to tilt and push the trigger bar over far enough to the point of failure. I had to use a odd grip to replicate it one handed so I could take a video but it shows it. To see if it was just my gun or not I went to a local shop that stocks a lot of M&P's and after the 5th consecutive shield doing it I stopped. I tried to get a M&P compact and full size to do it and they would not but every shield did. I'm going to contact S&W and ask for a full refund for the purchase price.
