I have a S&W 340PD .357 that is with me most of the time in a pocket holster. 8 or so years of use has really worn down the finish on the edges of the frame. It is the scandium model that has the lighter finish on the cylinder, so not the whole gun would need refinishing. Has anyone redone the finish on this type of pistol? Would cerakote or duracoat solve this or just get it re-blued?

There isn't anything that could be re-blued. The frame is anodized and the cylinder is bare titanium.

A bake on finish would be your best option, but as asked, Why?

Re: S&W Showing it's Age

Why? Because it looks poorly maintained with the finish worn off on the edges. I keep my guns (especially my duty weapons) in top condition. I understand that appearance does nothing to reduce performance.... I get it.

I'll look unto the baked on coatings.

Thanks.

Re: S&W Showing it's Age

I have a 340 M&P that is in the same shape. As soon as my blasting cabinet is done, I will be KG Guncoating mine. It seems to be the most bang for the buck. If you know how to disasemble it, and have access to a sand blaster, you could actually do it youself, just dont get caught by your wife for using her oven to bake. If you do, I would suggest buying an airbrush from harbor frieght and a can of KGs instead of buying the rattle can from brownells. I have had two cans that were almost impossible to paint consistantly with.

I'll look into that.

Nice. Good lead, Sir.

I disagree. There's wear from bad maintenance and then there's wear from honest use. The latter is nothing to be ashamed of and most gun people can tell the difference. Of course - JMHO.

x2

You have safe queen type guns or older nice guns that one would just assume not bang up, then there are working guns that need to work first and if they still look ok, that nice to. JMHO, use the gun for what it was intended and don't worry about the "character" its developed over the years.
