This rifle is stock. What would be a decent optic lens for this thing? Looking for cheaper more then expensive.

I'm not familiar with this rifle, it was my pops. I just want to get it out of the safe & put it to a little use.

What is the range on this thing? Anyone have an idea?

Thanks in advnace for your input.

If you are just looking to "put it to use", I'd suggest using the iron sights - the M1A has good ones. M1A is used in competition with irons out to 600 yards. With right ammo, and a scope, you could go to 1000.

To scope it, you need a good mount. Bassett or Sadlak are what seem to really work on this rifle.

You'll also need some kind of a cheek piece to raise the stock to match the high mount scope.

cheaper scope? M1A is reputed to be hard on scopes. I've got the SWFA 3x9, but that might be too much $ for your intentions. Their 10x is $299, and would be a no-brainer for this purpose. SWFA fixed 10x

A 10-12x top end is perfect for the M1A. SWFA 3-9 or 10x42 would be great at the price. Had a NF 2.5-10x32 on my M1A but sold it for some reason.

I know this is about glass, but figured I would add b/c of your quote above ... the M1A loves 168 and 175. Don't push heavier than 180gr bullets through it...the slow powder required to drive heavy bullets will over-pressure & damage your gas system.
