Shooters, I just wanted to share some information on the latest generation of bolt knob conversions were doing in the shop.

I believe that our bolt knob conversions are the best looking and most functional conversions out there. We're always trying to make our products the best, so if you have any constructive critisim we're always open to getting the customer what they need.

First is the Remington 700 Bolt knob conversion. Each bolt is indicated in on a lathe and the factory knob is turned down and threaded that is centered perfectly on the handle. Since Remington uses at least 3 different style handles, I can indicate each style in to get the best results.

Once the handle is threaded, I drill out the center of the bolt aprox. 1 1/4" deep. I then tap the hole and fill it with Loc-Tite 271 and insert a 10/32 hardened steel alloy screw. I do this because there is typically some kind of inclusions in the casted handles and these are usually in the middle of the handle and sometimes close to the bolt knob/handle shoulder junction and can/will cause breakage down the road.

Once the handle is threaded and drilled and tapped, the knob is screwed on and fitted. I typically leave a little contour of the factory knob so it blends in as well as a square knob can blend into a round bolt knob.

An additional benefit of doing it this way is that my bolt handles retain a little extra length than your standard milling bolt knob conversions. Short Action Customs conversions are typically around .1" longer aiding in extra leverage and keeping the bolt knob away from the trigger finger when the index finger is straight and off the trigger.

The fixture we use was designed to allow the bolt handle's threaded shaft to run parallel to the back side straight section of the factory handle. No additional sweep back is introduced into our conversions. Just a perfect conversion with all the correct angles and geometry. Furthermore, there is no distortion or deformation of the bolt handle. Our proprietary fixture causes no stress on the bolt assembly.

Finally, the bolt is removed from the fixture, cleaned, no refinishing is required, and the bolt knob is secured in place with JB Weld and sealed for functional and cosmetic reasons.

Price is $90, this includes performing the conversion, supplying the bolt knob and return shipping to the customer.

Features and Benefits

-Centered handle with correct geometry for precise and fast manipulation of bolt knob.

-Factory bolt handle retains more length than other conversions for increased leverage and minimal trigger finger interference.

-Handle is reinforced for additional strength unlike most other conversions which just use a 10/32 machine screw or leave the handle unmodified with no additional reinforcement.

-Bolt knob is sealed in place to prevent unscrewing of the knob and keeps bolt sealed from the elements.

-Our fixture puts no stress on the bolt and leave no clamping or securing marks unlike other conversions, no refinishing is required.

-Great price with 1 week or faster turn around.

I'm proud to pay and advertise on the Hide, if you have any questions please give me a call or shoot me a PM or email.

Re: SAC:latest generation Rem 700 boltknob conversions

Just wanted to chime in and say that I got my bolt back from Mark a couple of days ago, and the work he did was absolutely top notch. There's literally no way to tell that the Badger knob I got didn't come on there from the factory, really great workmanship!

Re: SAC:latest generation Rem 700 boltknob conversions

Mark put Badger knobs on my FN SPR and Rem 700 bolts. Each bolt was done with perfect transitions from the knob contour to that of the bolt handle. While bolt knob conversions may be simpler than other gun smithing operations, Mark's attention to details reveals excellent craftsmanship, and I would confidently send him work of greater complexity.

I just received a varmint rifle back that Mark built for me and the Remy bolt knob conversion he did is killer. His work is outstanding and will post some pictures up when i get it figured out.
