I am a new member here, so please be gentle with me. Tried searching and could not come up with anything. I recently picked up an almost new M1A for a steal. That leaves me with a little extra $$ to spend on accessories. With that said, I am looking to add a new chassis to it. I have been trying to find an EBR to mount it in but have had no success in finding one. As I was searching, I came across a few pics of an M1A in a Troy MCS. I think it looks like a good system. They main reason I liked both systems is the collapsible stock. I wanted to shorten up my weapon. Has anyone one here used on or both of the systems that will share some of their knowledge. Are the systems worth the money? Which one do you prefer and why? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Re: Sage EBR vs Troy MCS

Have you tried Fulton Armory? I think they have EBRs in stock right now.

Also try this same question over on www.m14tfl.com. Lots of M14 gurus over there.

H20MAN will likely jump in here. He has way more M14/M1A experience than me. Also, Don_in_SC knows a bunch too. I'm new the M1A as well.

Also, I believe VLTOR offers a collapsible stock as well, but its not the chassis system like the Sage or Troy.

Re: Sage EBR vs Troy MCS

I have the Troy MCS I haven't fire the weapon with it yet due to ammo costs and I'm waiting for an optic. I can tell you this it looks very cool there is more real estate then you know what to do with it terms of mounts. The other plus side is almost all the AR accessories work with it which is huge plus. All this comes at a cost of weight and the need to get some covers for all those rails.

Re: Sage EBR vs Troy MCS

I have an ERB stock and love it.It's a little heavy but the rifle shoots great.
Also if you go with one make sure you order it with the right hand guard for your barrel.

Re: Sage EBR vs Troy MCS

I just received a grey Mod 0 Sage stock from Clyde Armory for my SEI build.

I first contacted Sage about purchasing from them and they directed me to Clyde Armory as their retailer.

I finally got a direct purchase price from Sage and even with a military discount it was going to be more than what Clyde was selling them for.

The Mod 1 stock is pretty nice and weighs less than the Mod 0 stock too.

ETA: My stock came with the 5 screw top cover which should work with a standard or medium-heavy barrel. The 6 screw top cover only works with a standard profile barrel.

Re: Sage EBR vs Troy MCS

I have the EBR chassis installed on my M1A. To be honest with you it takes some time installing it. You will have to remove your flash suppressor and gas system along with your op rod guide block and instal theirs. While its not an extremely difficult task make sure you have the proper tools to do this. I did mine over an hour and half or so period and it is a great feeling knowing you did it.
With my SA Standard, optics, and Chassis, my EBR weighs in at about 16 lbs. Its not a light weight. I love it since it free floats the barrel an extra 6 or so inches. The only rail that I actually used was the bottom for bipod use. All my other rails have Magpul rail ladders on.
All in all its a great stock. I don't know about buying the new but you can pick them up pretty regularly used on the web.
PM me for any info pertaining to installation.

I had the pleasure to work with Steve Troy on the final prototype of his M14 MCS stock and I've owned several production stocks.
The TROY is heavier than the original SAGE EBR and it is my opinion that the TROY MCS is best suited to the SOCOM 16... YRMV.

I have been using the SAGE EBR since the AWB ended in 2004 and I have tried every conceivable configuration... my favorite is the M14ALCS/CV that utilizes the AR style receiver tube extension. This stock is going to be about 2.5 lbs. lighter than the original M14ALCS. It works well with both 18.0" and 22.0" barrels. The best place to buy a SAGE EBR stock is Clyde Armory in Bogart/Athens, GA.

Visit The History and Development of the SAGE Enhanced Battle Rifle (EBR) chassis stock system and The M14HDW Forum for additional information. Another reason to go with the SAGE, since the military uses large numbers of these stocks, upgrades and refinements have come about rather quickly... this is not the case with the TROY.

Re: Sage EBR vs Troy MCS

Thanks H2O. Those are some fine looking rifles.

Thanks for your input. I am more in function than form. Both chassis look great though. I am leaning more toward the Troy. I like the extended top rail that comes all the to the rear. I also think the relocated stock will help with recoil and follow up shots. Also a little better price also helps. I really do not mount a lot of external accessories to my weapon.

No problem, contact Tony at LAW483.com and make sure you get the most recent production stock. They have made improvements to the front band. FYI, my favorite butt stock on the TROY is the fixed A1 or A2. It may not look sexy, but it functions beautifully.

Re: Sage EBR vs Troy MCS

Got in touch with Tony. Have a Troy MCS on its way. I went with the Troy because of the sight plane and ease of maintenance. Will post up when I get it put together. Now I need to find a SWFA super sniper 10x42 side focus.

Re: Sage EBR vs Troy MCS

I have a Fulton Armory M1A with a Poly Tech forged receiver in a Troy MCS. It is a beast and I may get rid of it. My other option is to put it in another stock has anyone tried the McMillan Folder or the McCann Industries Carbon fiber M1a Stock?

I searched this in the google hide link and its in the wrong AO
