Suppressors Saiga 12?

Re: Saiga 12?

They are okay, they are the only game in town that you can put a 20rd drum mag on for a 12ga.

They are cheap, and to get them running you may very well have to double the original purchase price by the time you convert it, and put reliability parts into it.

Everything floating around on banning them is rumors, I've yet o hear any HARD evidence of what's going to happen. That said if you want one buy it quick, because with the ban fear going around the prices are going up, supply is way down, and conversion parts and prices for them are just going to keep going up for the next few months at least until after May/June.

Re: Saiga 12?

Everyone should have at least one.

A ban (or classification as a DD) is probably just a matter of time, they have so much more firepower than the old "street-sweeper".

Actually, contrary to internet hype, if you compare the 1989 ATF review with the most current study, the view is much more positive. For instance in the 89 version "police combat games" were summarily dismissed. In the current iteration it was recognized that there are currently several organizations where shotguns are being used in practical competitions. Translate that out of government speak and it looks much better for us.

To the OP
Saiga's are iffy...pay your money take your chances. No two come from the vodka swilling russians with any where near the same dimensions. Some run just fine some not so much. With a little work they can run pretty good and with a lot of work they can be pretty damn fantastic.

Re: Saiga 12?

I wish I shot open, those firebird saiga's are sick as hell! Craig can shoot them too

Re: Saiga 12?

I have two friends with saiga 12's and they were pretty different from each other. One friends saiga ran like a top right out of the box! We fired somewhere around 300 shells out of it after clean up and working the action over and over and over again to loosen up the bolt. Not one missfeed not one failure. Would empty a 10 round mag as fast as you could pull the trigger and OBLITERATE anything it was pointed at. Helluva lot of fun! The other one on the other hand would shoot tactical 00 buck no problem. Cycled like a champ but when we tried to put some #8 bird through it, it would missfeed every time. Ended up having to take the gas block off and drill the holes out a little bit. He also sent off the bolt group to have them polished which apparently does wonders for the reliability and feel of the weapon. I was impressed with the lack of recoil and the ability to stay on target during rapid fire. Trigger is pretty crappy out of the box on both but there are alot of upgrade parts available for these.
I would recommend it after having experienced it and plan on snagging one myself. It's just too much fun to not have one in my possession. Plus, I have never personally experienced a weapon that is more capable of creating so much carnage at close range and in such a short amount of time. Within 50 yards with tactical 00 buck, there is no biological entity that could survive a 10 round mag being emptied into it.

Re: Saiga 12?

I kind of look like at the saiga like the 10/22 platform from what I've seen of guys at the range and my shooting of a few of them.

Some guys dump a small chunk of money into them and they perform awesome. Others end up dumping huge amounts of money into them trying to get them to run and they still seem to be problematic. As others have said I'm sure it's the variance in all the tolerances/quality that ends up being the issue. It's really a crap shoot it seems. I also think most guys shooting full power loads have much less problems as that's what the platform is designed to shoot, it's when they try to run light birdshot loads through them that issues arrive. Obviously that's a lot cheaper option than the heavy spendy loads so the desire to do so is understandable.

Much like the 10/22 I think my view is that in the end for most people, instead of buying one for $600 and putting $600 of parts into it and hoping it works, most would probably be better served by spending a similar amount or even a bit more to get one that's been worked over/setup by a good smith and does run. hicap Mags seem to be very hit and miss withe the saiga's right now, again much like cheaper hi-cap mags in the 10/22. You'll find one guy with 12rd mags running like a top in his saiga, and they won't run for crap in the next one.

There's a project for Magpul, as if they don't have enough stuff on their plate. Saiga mags, and AICS/AW mags and TRG mags
