Sako 85: keeper or meh?

Re: Sako 85: keeper or meh?

If you want a hunting rifle and you are willing to pay...they are awesome rifles. If you want a tactical build I would look elsewhere. Personally, I would take the 75 over the 85. My $.02.

You need to include a lot more info before asking members to formulate an opinion. The intended use and cost ceiling are huge factors.

Ok....Here's my take.

I won a TRG-22. Sako makes amazing rifles. However, their hunting rifles are expensive in comparison to others. If you want an extremely nice, accurate hunting rifle...get the Sako. The 85 is not a rapid departure from the 75 and the so called "controlled round feed" is not a true controlled round feed. I personally like the 75 better than the 85. If I were looking for a controlled round feed it would be a full length extractor variant (Winnie, FN, Kimber, etc).

If it is going to be used as a base for a custom I say look elsewhere. If you want a precision rifle get a TRG.

The Tikkas are extremely accurate and definitely the best bang for your buck. If you are taking it out hunting every year and do not need a display piece, the Tikka should fit the bill. It is also a great base for a custom build.

Its all in what you are going to use it for.
