So, here I am. I've been waiting three months to get this rifle together, and ready to fire. I have heard a couple things about breaking in this rifle. The first was to just do a standard barrel break in to it. Then the other side of the story is to just squeeze off, because the Sako's do not need to be broke in.
For you Sako owners out there, what have you done, and what performance have you gotten?

Rifle: Sako TRG 42
Chamber: .338 Lapua Mag
Twist: 1:12
Break: Sako TRG Muzzle Break / Flash Hider
Bi Pod: Harris 9-13" (The only thing I went cheap on)
Base: Near Man. 25 MOA
Rings: Near Man. Alphamount
Scope: Leupold 8.5-25x50 Mark 4 LR/T with Holland ART Reticle
Ammo: Lapua 250gr Scenar

I have posted some pics of this rifle in the photo sections. Thanks for any help you could give me.

That is kind of what I was thinking. My friends father has the TRG in .300 Wim Mag. He said the same thing.

Re: Sako TRG 42 Break In

At $5 to $6 a pull, breaking the barrel is a waste of money. Never did it for any of my guns and they all shoot just fine.

Re: Sako TRG 42 Break In

Any gun with a "quality" barrel will need little to no running in. Any gun with the normal factory rough finish barrel IS likely to need some time to come on and "run in".
Your gun should be fine. If anything clean it the first few times you use it, if you start to feel the barrel is easier to clean or less rough with patches it's about done. If you don't feel a change then it does not need it. Once that's done just clean when it's needed. I doubt your gun needs it though
