I've always wanted a TRG, found on in 260 Rem with a low round count (150). Guy from work is selling it due to loosing his job and its a reasonable price. I know 260 isn't as exciting as the 6.5 Creed, but would I be limiting myself going with the 260? I have plenty of 308 brass that I could resize into 260. I've always been a 308 fan but since this rifle is something I have wanted I am willing to make the switch.

Tl/DR am I screwing myself going 260 and not waiting for a 6.5Creed? Is it like the 6mm Remington vs 243 Win?

Is it green?
In my area you can still get 260 FGMM ammo but 6.5CM is nonexistent or stupid expensive.
I’d love a TRG 22 and would only get it in 260.

Master Race and all... Get it. What exactly do you think you will be missing out on? I'd pick up in a heart beat.

Lapua .260 Rem brass is in stock at OTM now, don't even need to mess with sizing 308 and neck turning.

not a thing....

I use the exact same, bullets, primers, and power, at the same charge in both.
This is what I was getting at, trying to get the OP to figure out that they are going to be basically the same. Slight edge to the 6.5cm inside of an AR mag but that’s it.

260 has a little more case capacity even

I have a one of the 260 Rem TRGs that EuroOptics sourced a long time ago. Great gun, I shot through a couple of barrels as a 260 and just sent it off to get it re-barreled as a 6 Creedmoor. 260 rem is a great caliber for a TRG, the only reason I'm switching to the 6mm is that caliber works a little better for the local competitions I'm doing.

I missed it. I waited too long to get back to him. Fuck.
Seeing as how I am in the money wasting mood, how well does the TIkka Tac A1 Le compare to the TRG? I know the TRG has a more robust receiver, traditional stock ect, but the Tac A1's stocks are fairly comfortable as well. Least I find them comfortable.

I own a TRG22 in 6.5 Manbun. It is hands down my favorite rifle, and the most consistently precise of any that I've owned.

My buddy has the Tikka Tac A1, also in 6.5, and I have fired it a few times. It is a very nice, very accurate rifle as well. The action is not as smooth as the TRG, and the trigger, while nice, is definitely not as nice as a TRG. I find the TRG stock much more comfortable than the Tac A1 chassis.

OP, if you have always wanted a TRG, then that's what you should buy. The Tikka is an excellent rifle, but you'll buy it and still want the TRG.

I have attached a few pics of groups fired at 100yd prone from my TRG. All fired using an Atlas bipod on B&T spigot, with a @Precision Underground ELR rear bag. Factory 6.5 Creedmoor barrel. The first two are my handloads (5 round group and 4 round group, respectively), the next few are factory ammo. It does this with almost boring regularity. The gun is an absolute dream and if I could swing it I would buy another one.

Just get an AIAX in 260 or 6.5CM.
My AX with a 24" 260 shoots 139/140s at 2800. My Maten gas gun with 22" 6.5CM shoots 140s at 2650.
I got one the former trainer rifles from MHSA in 308 with 22"(?) 1:10 AINA barrel and a 24" 260 1:8 Tooley/Bartlein barrel and they both shoot lights out. Without the scope/bipod I would guess I have a little over $5k in it. 548+/-rds thru the 308 (they estimated 200-300 and I have added 248) and 228 thru the 260 barrels.
You never know .... I'm thinking of a TacOps Lima or X-Ray 260 ...

OP I did the exact same as you, except it was several years ago now. I was shooting a lot of .308 in competitions. The cool kids running the faster and lighter-recoiling calibers were taking me to school. I deliberated on calibers for a long time, but a guy I know suggested the .260. After doing the research on it, I ended up with an RWS-built .260 that was an absolute hammer.

I have been shooting .260 for many years now. Just shot one again today. The .260 is glorious. I do wish the neck was a bit longer on the cases, and the shoulders had a bit more angle to them, but let me give you one of the best aspects of the .260: With the way ammo/components are nowadays, you can easily use .308, .243, or 7mm-08 and the transition is very simple.

Also, more and more companies are beginning to make small rifle pocketed brass for it, which is also very cool. They are making loaded ammo for it as well. I just shot some of the Hornady Match 130's this morning, great ammo.

Although I am a tremendous fan of the 6.5CM, I would not think twice with the offer you have.

IIRC TRG mag does well with longer length OALs...so 260 sako should be good

As someone else said. Get a TRG, a Tikka TAC will not fill the void in your soul... 308 is not that bad, and a 260/6.5CM is just a barrel away.

I wanted another 260 but I ended up gettting the 308 as it was much cheaper
Either way that gun will kick serious ass
Better start looking for a bipod

I owned a TRG-22 in Australia and it will always be my favourite ‘factory rifle’ I’ve ever owned. I had to sell it after I moved to the US because it was too much of a PITA to export. While the Tikka is a great rifle, it’s not close to a TRG and as others have said, you’ll always be thinking couldda, shouldda, wouldda.

The good thing about the USA is the amount of places that can spin up shouldered pre-fits in anything you want. KRG makes an action wrench. Don’t get me started about the cost of TRG mags and anything else legit Sako. That is probably the only downside to the investment if you want all the ‘Sako’ bits to attach on.

I love my TRG and remember, you can always swap out the barrel for a different caliber when you burn that one out.
