I purchased a Sako TRG-S in 7mm Rem Mag about 15 or so years ago and have been using it as my primary deer rifle ever since. It's been a tack driver from day one and once I figured out what it liked to eat it's been a 5 shot ragged whole gun. It has one of the smoothest actions and best triggers I've run across in a production rifle. The thing is I've never run across anyone else that had one and was wondering if anyone else here currently has or had one and what kind of experience you had with it.

Re: Sako TRG-S

It is great rifle. I wish Sako still made them. It is the same action used on the Sako TRG rifles.

The big complaints were the fragile stocks, and the lame recoil lug system. It is also a bit heavy for a hunting rifle. However, the 60 degree bolt, reliable magazine system, and excellent trigger make it a great start for a custom project.

I converted my TRG-S into a long-range rifle with the help of a heavy Bartlein barrel, and McMillan A5 stock. I also had a Remington style lug installed.

Not bad for an action that was never trued! (5-shots, 200 meters)

Re: Sako TRG-S

Nice rifle! I've been thinking about doing something similiar with mine lately but it's so damn accurate now I hate to mess with a good thing. What caliber is yours? I remember when I bought mine I it was a toss up between a 7mm RM and a 300 Winchester. At $450 new in the box at the time I shoulda bought 1 of each.

It's a great action, we're running one with a TRG-42 barrel in 300WM in one of our Whiskey-3 Chassis. Also HTG silencers will have a 995 in 338 Lapua at SHOT in one of our chassis as well. Definitely a good find for you,
Justin

Re: Sako TRG-S

Mine is 7mm Remington Magnum. That same .532" bolt face will also work for 300 Winchester Magnum. All you'll need is a new barrel.

Another thing to consider is the fact that you can buy replacement TRG-S bolts from Brownells. Get the .473" bolt body and a new magazine, and now your rifle can shoot a majority of the popular non-magnums. I'd love another one in 6.5x55, or 284 Winchester

Likewise, you could also buy the 338 Lapua bolt and magazine (expensive!) and step up to an even bigger magnum

Re: Sako TRG-S

Thanks Glock! I did not know any of that. I'd love a .338 but the ammo is too expensive. I have the bug now so I guess I'll start the conversion. I have other deer rifles so I'll make this something along the lines of a long range shooter. Looked at the Whisky 3 that Mossoud pointed out and like it's looks and functionality. You used a Bartlein barrel? Did you look at any others and if so what'd you find, like/dislike? Thanks much.
