Sammi specs on 6.5 creedmor

Re: Sammi specs on 6.5 creedmor

For what it's worth, I don't reload but I have a 6.5 Creedmoor and I have been researching reloading info on here for months.

I pretty much shoot factory 140 Amax, for the money you cant beat it. Really, the load info on the box is hard to beat. H4350, start at 41 grains, load to 2.81 and work up from there. From what I understand that load works well with the 139 scenar, 140 Amax, and 142 Smk's. The 142's do build pressure faster in some cases so if you find a hot load for the 139/140 don't just switch to the 142's without working back up. The VLD type bullets require a little more "tuning". If you get a chance, talk to Andrew @ McCourt Munitions, everytime I talk to him I learn something new about reloading.

Look on the back of a box of your 140 AMAX factory loads. There's where to start.

Re: Sammi specs on 6.5 creedmor

Maybe an odd question, if load to the same specs as listed on the back of the box am I going to get basically the same results?

I just bought the components I need, just haven't had time to load any. If I can match the accuracy of the factory ammo ill be happy. The 140 amax shoots unbelievable out of the box.

Re: Sammi specs on 6.5 creedmor

Maybe. Different lots of powder will need different powder charges. Hornady doesn't even load every lot with 41.5grns. Pull a bullet and it might be more or less. They load to a certain pressure/velocity spec. 41.5grns is the load they first developed and loaded and it is a good place to start and work from there.

Re: Sammi specs on 6.5 creedmor

I would be very careful starting with 41 grains as per the hornady reloading manual 40.9grs is the max load for h4350 with 38.1 being the starting load.

Not sure why it says that but 41grns is fine to start with. Most people I know who load for it are using between 42 and 43 grns with the 140s.

For the SAAMI spec, you go here and click on "Rifle" in the CC drawings:

And for reloading data, you go here to the "AMMO Depot" at the top of the reloading section to find 6.5 Creedmore loads:

Re: Sammi specs on 6.5 creedmor

Started breaking barrel in today. Got it done. Then started with a few loads. 140 amax with 42.2 of h4350 at 2.800" produced a 4 shot group at 110 yards that was one hole. Literally. Wish I knew how to post pics. Thing is a laser beam. Checked brass, primer ect... Could bump up a few 10ths with no problem. I didn't get to do the testing I wanted to bc it was raining but there's always next week. Going to north Carolina with the wife for new years but when i get back I'll strech it out to 520 yards and see how it drives. Will post results
