Samsung just unveiled an amazing new solar-powered LCD television that can operate completely free from the power grid! The 46″ prototype TV, shown at CeBit in Germany, includes solar panels that produce energy from the ambient light in a room – because it was engineered to use very little energy, no additional power sources are needed. Another major breakthrough behind the concept is that the thin screen can display images and information while allowing objects behind it to be visible – this means that it has applications ranging from car windshield HUDs to storefront displays and digital window blinds.

Re: Samsung Unveils Solar-Powered Transparent TV

Not only do I want one, but I want about seven of those things. Mucho-grande uses for an item such as that.

Re: Samsung Unveils Solar-Powered Transparent TV

That is slick as shit. I think I would have a few uses for these...

Re: Samsung Unveils Solar-Powered Transparent TV

Put about 3 of those in the front windows of your house and have videos playing on them. One of a barking Doberman, one of someone walking around with a .500 S&W, and one with a .50 cal aiming all over the place. Leave home worry free.

Re: Samsung Unveils Solar-Powered Transparent TV

Not a bad idea, except for possibly the .50BMG, which might want to be substituted, depending where one lives. But why stop at a barking dog? How about a snarling, adult, male African lion" Or three of them?

Re: Samsung Unveils Solar-Powered Transparent TV

I've had the LCD HUD windshield idea in mind for almost a decade now. Once again, someone takes my idea to the marketplace.

Re: Samsung Unveils Solar-Powered Transparent TV

Sounds like an Awesome TV, and I might be interested depending on how much they want for one.

HUDs have already been implemented for autos, but I am not sure why they aren't widely available or standard by now.

Re: Samsung Unveils Solar-Powered Transparent TV

can't wait to buy a motorcycle helmet with this tech in it. I want rearview heads up display, tach and speed on helmet etc. Vehicle proximity indicators.

Never have to change body position, would be epic.

Or Easstwood in one window sneering "Go ahead punk make my day", And porn in the other.
