Sand safe for backstop?

Hey all, I want to shoot the .22 lr-.22 mag in the back yard..is about 10 inches of sand safe to shoot into?

I would mix with dirt and add some more depth if possible.

I had some trees fall in a storm. I cut into logs about 6 feet long and stacked two deep with a 1 foot gap between. Then I filled the gap with soil. I shoot up to a 30-06 with no full penetration.
