Suppressors SAS quality issues

First, I want to make clear that I am an SAS suppressor owner, as are a few of my friends. I have been happy with the actual can from day one, mounting it on FALs, ARs, an MSAR and now I want to add it to my Rem700 PSS. I ordered a mount from Stacey and took it to my smith. He has a reputation for amazing work and is contracted to do some pretty high speed stuff. When I chatted with him about the work I needed (thread muzzle to accept SAS adaptor) he said he would do it, but it meant I had to absolve him of any issues deriving from the can and mount. He will garauntee a thread job that is bore concentric, but has no faith that any of my SAS made parts will be straight. His experience with them has left him very soured. He requested that I bring the barreled action, flash hider mount and suppressor in all together and we will see where it all specs and if it wobbles on the lathe.
Anybody have any input or experience to share on this topic?

I've nad no issues with mine. I told the smith to thread the tubes 5/8X24 tpi and concenteric to bore. Cans screwed right on with no issues or strikes. He had some teeting problems when he started out with his thread tolerance being loose. He corrected problem, fixed the cans and customers were happy. Wanted to add I did not drop my cans off with smith when I dropped the barrels off. This has been my experience.

Mine have been good to go. I have a SAS mount that I installed on my AR-10 factory thread mount, as well as on my barrel threaded by Tim. Both have made me very happy.

we had baffle strikes yesterday with a SAS suppressor...we went back to my shop where I had extra mounts and went through them one by one. placed a rod in the end of the gun barrel and would carefully screw the can on. Bullet flight was about anywhere but concentric with the bore except for one.

That's no good. I'm buying an Arbiter that's thread on only. Hope that isn't an issue.

To "gewehrmonkey" post, we got him linked up with Tim @ SAS, the can was a very early model and the new muzzle brakes/flash hiders do not work with these, so Tim is taking care of this with him.

Corn-fed: That is interesting, sounds odd and I know that most all of the issues we have found to date have been mostly with the barrels and threading. I have been shooting them now for nearly 2 years, yet to have a "baffle strike", so that would lead me to want to follow through with Tim and check out the devices for manufacture defect's maybe, just a suggestion here.

Okay time to ask my question. Recently I bought a SAS Arbiter through my local SOT. He's saying he's having a hard time getting a copy of the Form 3 from Tim. Do they tend to be slow about this kind of stuff?

There is no "hard time" getting the form 3, it comes with the suppressor and only then, not before which many want to start the form 4. The form 2's and 3's are taking on average 30 days each and this is directly due to the inspector, not the manufacture. Some inspectors are quicker, some not so much, best way to describe it.

What do you mean by this? Does it mean that my SOT doesn't know what the serial of the suppressor is or get a copy of the form 3 until the suppressor is shipped to him? Or is it when the suppressor is created?

Yeah, I dunno what the deal with my SOT is. I expected a wait. With the Form 3 we had to wait, but surprisingly it was about a week.

SA, pretty much he is saying that until the can is built there will be no paperwork sent anywhere. That way there is less possibilities of errors between the two.

Hrm. Well his wording was rather vague. It seems pretty obvious that you can't transfer something until it's created. A mix up in serializing would be a pain.

I really don't have enough info from my SOT. I took it as he had purchased a can already on the Form 3. If it's on the Form 3 then it should exist. I'm going to give him a call.

(Oh yeah and I accidentally wrote form 2 in my previous post...oops)

wait to get the S/N when the From 3 goes through. I had the same questions. IT is best if you can start the process and then forget you have even done anything.

Oh I know. It took a good 7 1/2 months to get my first can. I know how to wait. Right now I'm trying to get as many in the queue as possible.

Sorry, thought it was clear but the above statements are correct. Your Dealer/SOT will receive the Form 3 with the suppressor, the Form 4 will only and can only be started then for the tax stamp transfer. The Form 3's on my end take about 1-2 weeks, but I have a different inspector as well. So that is where the delays are occurring on that end, not the manufacturer.

I have one of Tim's first retail suppressors from when he was CTS (Custom Tactical Systems). It rides on my M4. I have had no problems whatsoever with it.

I would have no hesitation about buying one of his cans for my 700 or AR10.
