My son and I shot these about mid-day. He got three with his Marlin .44 (he is an absolute beast with that rifle), and I got the black one with my .257 Wby.

This is a bullet recovered from under the skin on the off side shoulder of one of the big tan sows. It's what remains of a 240gr Hornady XTP. Still weighs 210gr. The little .44mag has really impressed me on pigs. Nothing carries better in the brush and with the XS Ghost Ring sights, it gets on target amazingly fast. My son can drive it about as fast as most can do a semi-auto, and the .44 Mag seems to put them down with authority.

Topped off the day with this. Don't be too hard on me 'cause I also posted it in the Big Buck Contest Thread, but I'm pretty excited about him. Five minutes of legal shooting light left. He was facing me straight on and looking right at me. Didn't give me much time. Shot was 100 yards offhand with my .257 Wby pushing an 80gr TTSX at about 3700. You can see the entrance wound in the center of his chest on the first picture. My biggest deer so far...

Boy, that is very cool. I am feeling rather green right now.

I had the chance to fire a .44 lever gun once, it sure was a sweet little shooter. Goes so well with the action.

Good times.

Excellent photos, looks like you're definitely making the best of the hunting season.

I think I need to get my lazy ass out of the couch and get me self some bacon too.

Nice buck by the way, congrats!

Didn't recover the 80gr TTSX. Shot was perfectly straight on and pretty well centered in the chest, so I guess the bullet was in the guts somewhere. Both lungs had pretty good damage, but I missed the heart. Deer went about 30 yards.

Shot the black pig in the head, facing mostly straight on. Bullet went through the head, exited, reentered and traveled toward the rear. I could feel mushiness near the rear hip. I didn't attempt to recover it. She was really drawn down from her litter.
