I have a friend that is going to build a Savage rifle. He is looking for a Model 10 rifle or action in 308 bolt face. Are the model 12 and model 16 actions the same? If not, what is the difference?

Only difference I could think of would possibly if they were large shank actions. I'm not sure.

ok... there are only 3 Savage centerfire actions in reality.... w/ the exception of the model 12 "target actions" and the model 25s, all others are the same and available in both short and long action... so standard model 12s model 10s, 11, 14s, and 16s are all the same... then the model 12 targets are slightly different... and the model 25s are scaled up rimfire actions
for a build, most people will want a 10, 11, std 12, 14, or 16 for short action, or 110,111, 112, 114, 116 for long action.

same screw locations? I got a B&C stock collecting dust and itching to rebarrel something in 300 whisper....

You should check the action screw spacing. It changed on the short actions when we got the accutrigger, centerfeed, round rear.
