Savage 10 detachable mag conversion

Re: Savage 10 detachable mag conversion

if all else fails, sharp shooter supply (I know...) has the acme conversion. Just need to have your stock inletted. They charge $50 for inletting, but who knows how long it will take to have done. Whole setup with 1 mag, bm and inletting is $263 plus s/h each way.
That said, I sent a bolt to have the ppc conversion (open the bolt head up a bit and install a larger extractor) done about 1 month ago. It took them about 2.5 weeks to answer my email about the conversion, and in it they told me it would take 2-3 weeks after they received it. My barrel will be in Friday, and I'm hoping my bolt will be here this week or next (1 month from the date I shipped it).
If you order from them, be prepared to wait. You have been warned.

Re: Savage 10 detachable mag conversion

+1 on Kevin Rayhill at Stockade Guns....expect to wait for a while, but it is a good product. I have one in a Long Action that uses AI mags that Rayhill did the work on (for on a Manners stock (Savage donor Long Action)).

Re: Savage 10 detachable mag conversion

I have CDI and love it, good stuff, hate taping off the inlet when I paint stocks that have CDI DBM, but oh well. SSS have a DBM setup but I think it's pointless to do, mags are not readily available as AI's, and I personally don't think it's as good. If you have an aftermarket trigger, you'll have to modify it slightly to provide clearance, or you can just add about .040" thick washer between the BM and the stock to provide a little extra clearance. I myself, had to trim my action screws as well as they were too long, and we've had to do the same to several rifles that we've done fitting for here at the shop, the front action screw that Jeff provides is too long and protrudes into the area where the bolt lugs are and makes it so the bolt won't close. Although these things sound like a big deal, they really aren't. I need to send a message to Jeff about it and perhaps he can get the parts modified in the manufacturing process to accomodate.

Re: Savage 10 detachable mag conversion

+1 on the CDI, because you don't already have a factory DBM system. If you did I'd say check out deadeye (Dan) from Dark Eagle Customs. He is making high cap mags that fit the factory well. They are similar to the SSS offerings, but he doesn't seem to have as long of a wait.

and since you have to mill for something, may as well be CDI. really nice stuff.

Re: Savage 10 detachable mag conversion

Did I misspeak Axeman? If he has the blind mag and is going to need his inletted anyway, CDI is the way to go IMO. Personally, I have a 110 in .300wm that has a factory DBM. I've been in touch with Dan (deadeye or Dark Eagle Customs) about some higher cap factory type mags.

Re: Savage 10 detachable mag conversion

no i just meant if he has to have it inlet why do it for the factory set up, except that zr71rat's mags are way cheaper than any alternatives.

50-80 a mag is about the range for the AI compatible stuff and the CDI is 210. but he could get a factory DBM, i sold mine on here, and then get the z71 mags and be way cheaper than the other alternatives out there.

but it looks like i thought that you suggested the factory DBM. you and i both like the CDI and had i not bedded my rifle id still be shooting the factory DBM and my 2 SSS mags, 1 DE mag and three or four Z71 mags. but i went CDI to correct the increase in action height from bedding. my bolt would not pick up the rounds after trying it so i sold it all and went CDI/Alpha
