Rifle is all factory. I've finally found a factory load that the rifle likes (40 gr vmax of the fiocchi brand). Most factory ammo shoots an inch or less @ 100 yards but the fiocchi consistently prints .4"-.5". My glass is the midway special BSA 6-24x44 30mm in leupold prw rings. The optic is actually quite nice for the $$$. So my ? Is where do I go next to get the groups tighter. Do I go Stock (it does not have the accustock as it is an older model w/ 20" 1 in 9 twist)? Do I buy better glass? Maybe a trigger? I don't much care for the accutrigger but I've gotten use to it. I've been lurking here for some time and see all the gaps, tac ops, and other customs print some tiny groups but what size group should I be expecting from this rifle as a relatively new shooter. Just wanted to get some input from others that are one step ahead of me. Trying to stay on a budget cause I want one them there customs too.

I would love to get some distance in front of me. Unfortunately, I'm lucky to get to the range more than once a month. It's only a 100 yard max distance. If anybody in the dfw/n. Tx area has some land and wouldn't mind me out there, that would be great. I'm very respectful of peoples stuff and would not just be tearing things up and leaving trash behind. Right now the only thing available to me is about 3 hrs south of me. Makes for a short weekend for a single dad.

I have almost the exact same rifle as you. Mine is a 20" .223 with a choate stock, ken Farrell rings and base, and a leupold mk 4 scope. My rifle always shoots about what yours does. My best was about .35 5 shot group at 100 using 53 gr smk's. I've always been really happy with it...especially since the rifle cost me $700 with the stock about 8 years ago.

I'd say you're probably close to the extreme "good" accuracy for that rifle.

Everything you can do from here involves spending a little $$$. Change the barrel, stock, or the trigger and your groups will probably start to shrink.

I would buy some JB weld, and bed the action for my first step towards cheap accuracy. Do you handload? If not my next step would be buying a cheap lee press, in the starter kit. You can get much more accuracy out of handloads, and in the long run you can shoot more for less money. I have a SSS trigger in my savage, and it is nicer than the accutrigger, but if you have to choose between that and a press, choose the press. By far the two biggest things to increase my accuracy have been rolling my own and practice(which I do more of because of rolling my own) Dry firing also helps a lot.
