Savage 10FP or 10FP-SR or 12 FV??? .223

I will be purchasing one of the three .223's very soon and was wanting to know what kind of experiences and accuracy you have had with either of these. Which one is more versatile as far as short to long range and competition (when upgraded more). All have 1/9 twist.. Thanks!

I can't offer an opinion on which gun is better, but if you are planning to upgrade them anyways, why not just go with a higher quality gun?

Savage 10fp is capable of fine accuracy right out of the box. Glass is important. I am looking at a group right now shot at 300 yards that measures a tad less than 2 inches. That's not bad for a " cheap " gun.
It is a 308

I've got a 12FV in .223 with the factory 26" 9 twist barrel in a BC A2 Medalist stock, and a 75gr Hornady HPBT over 24.0gr Varget puts 5 shots into a .465" group at 100yd...and that's with very minimal load development and me being a lousy shot.

That said...if you want a longer barrel go with the 12FV, if you want a shorter barrel go with the 10FP, if you wanted it threaded for a can go with the -SR.

A new stock and maybe a new trigger (depending on how you like the accutrigger) would be the "best" upgrades for shootability, in my opinion.

So you pose and interesting question. I have a 12 FV that shot okay .75 MOA at 100. Since I got it I have put it in a new stock B and C medalist put an SSS trigger on it and a new CBI barrel. Now you say that you want to upgrade so I would not start with model 12 action but instead a stevens 223. Order a new barrel, stock, and trigger and have what you are going to end up in the long run anyway. You would also save yourself several hundred dollars by not paying for the accutrigger and heavy barrel.

I ended up just keeping my Custom Remington 700 .308
