Got a new .308 Savage 10fp and I am having a bolt/trigger problem. When I chamber a round, the action of cycling the bolt also resets the accu-trigger. I have not adjusted the trigger from the factory setting. However, when I run the bolt in with a bit of speed and drop the handle, the silver portion of the accu-trigger does not reset properly and in fact locks up despite the fact that the bolt has cycled completely and the bolt handle is down.

If I go slowly when I am locking down the bolt then it doesn't happen but if I have any sense of urgency when I drop the bolt handle, there is a problem.

Thanks guys. Any direction you can give would be much appreciated.

This is a common theme with the accutrigger. My Savage did that when I turned the trigger ALL the way down, which was about 8 oz or so. I had to close the bolt very gently, or the sear would disengage the trigger notch, and essentially disallow me from cocking the rifle.

I feel this is a perfectly reasonable and understandable condition (for an OEM trigger) - IF the trigger pull weight is WAY low like mine was.

I feel this is absolutely unacceptable if your pull weight is over 1 pound.... Where is yours?

If you haven't adjusted the trigger yet, you need to send the rifle back and have them fix it.

FYI: The reason your accu-release "locks up", is because the sear is resting on it. The design is really quite elegant, and without pulling the accu-release in, the sear is not able to move far enough rearward to allow the firearm to discharge....nice safetey, in my opinion.

try this first. take it apart, clean the sear and engagement surfaces and relube. that helps alot of people. the only trigger that goes to 6 oz is the target accutrigger. it has a red blade. the model 10s have a 1.5# minimum i believe and the hunting models are 2.5# or 3# i cant recall. there are a few posts about this if you search. some will never have an issue (me!) and others pull the triggers first thing and get a rifle basix trigger or a SSS comp trigger. midway or brownells will have one or the other and you will be happy with either from what i have heard. like i said, i dry fire and cycle dummy rounds alot and never have an issue. others have issues

It isnt that common a malfunction. However it is frustrating if your rifle has the problem.

I have used the older FPs to make nice comp rifles. Replacing that trigger with a sharpshooter supply comp trigger is easy. The accutrigger replacement requires a bit of metal cutaway from a bit of the trigger housing but thats rather easy.

I never was a fan of the accutrigger, replacing it, even if yours is functioning properly with a good trigger like the SS comp one will be a benefit.

I have noticed that if I slam the bolt that happens. My soultion is to work the bolt smoothly and I have NO issues. Never happens unless the bolt is slammed closed and slammed down. SLOW is SMOOTH, SMOOTH is FAST !!

thats just it. a lot of the comp shooters will not have the luxury of slow and smooth in certain timed stages. those are the guys that instantly toss the accutrigger. ill have to crany away at mine and see what happens

have you checked it or lightened it with the adjustment tool? they are all supposed to come from the factory adjusted to the lightest end. do you have a fishing scale? anything that weighs a pound. like a bag of rice or beans? can figure out a way to hang something off the trigger if you dont have a trigger scale?
