Ok. I'm sure this has been covered a bit as it seems to be a common problem, but I've done a search and didn't come up with an answer.

While feeding a round from the staggered magazine in my Savage 12 .223, more often than not it will throw the round into the back of the barrel.

The COAL is 2.24 with a 55 gr SMK, but it does this will various overall lengths.

It seems most people I found that had this problem simply shot the rifle as a single shot. There has to be a way to fix this. Some have mentioned modifying the magazine lips. Anyone have any luck with that?

Thanks again, and sorry if this is just repeating something over again.

Re: Savage 12 feeding issues

See how no one has chimed in to help, I'll give this a try. I do own a Savage 10 and a 12.

1.I had my Savage 10 that would not pu the 3rd round in the blind magazine-It would slop it up and not enter the chamber properly-I bought a new magazine follower from Midway and the new spring locked the round in place better and allowed the bolt to properly pick the round and my problem was resolved.

2. I went to a weekend bolt rifle school and the instructors harped at me to work the bolt properly as I was used to shooting 1 or 2 off the bench and would slowly extract and push the bolt forward, having problems on occasion-so bottom line was to rapidly work the bolt upon extraction and reloading to eliminate any chance to have the round waver from its designated objective, the chamber.
Just a couple of experiences from my world-good luck!

Re: Savage 12 feeding issues

Thanks for the advice.

Last night I took a look at it. I was going to adjust the feed lips, but I noticed the magazine had some play in it. I formed a small metal shim that forced the magazine to the right side. This lined up the round with the barrel better. I ran 10 rounds through it and didn't have any issues. We'll see how it holds up.

Thanks again!

I've had the same problem with my model 10, I'm wondering if switching to a ACIS 223 magazine system maybe in the McREE stock to see if that fixes it.
