can i get bottom metal and just dremmel out the correct size in the stock? then take off that internal magazine box from the action and have it feed well with magazines? i'm not even sure if this questions even make sense so if they dont please tell me and ill try to re-explain

you can send it to Jeff at CDI and he will inlet for his bottom metal for $60 and his is made to fit savage inlets. so, you can do it or he can do it in a mill for $60. who's DBM will you be using?

what bottom metal would you recommend for a .223? i was thinking badger but if i could go cheaper and still get some good quality, that would be preferred.

clueless about that. might try jeff anyway. i know he does 308s but im clueless on 223

CDI has only good reviews from everything I have found on them so far. I will be sending a stock to him shortly for inletting and fitting.
